What does Rutherford do

Created by: Boldirev
Team: 2021-22 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 8, 2022
Published: Jan. 9, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rutherford has said he is not interested in trading high picks or prospects to turn this roster into a Stanley Cup contender, but is looking for draft picks and young players. That doesn't leave many options, so what is it he will actually do?? IF the Canucks are out of realistic playoff contention, Halak and Motte are no brainers to move and maybe a player like Schenn goes to a cap strapped team for a middling pick. The only roster players that will bring back the type of return Rutherford is looking for are Miller, Boeser, Horvat and Garland. I suspect only one of Miller/Horvat goes and maybe one of Boeser/Garland, but the returning players, picks and cap space would go a long way towards this team building up to a cup contending team, not just a playoff team.

Avs decline Francouz is a perfectly capable backup. Maybe they’d have interest in acquiring a 3rd goalie but not for that price.

The Avs wouldn’t give a 3rd for Halak and on no planet are you getting Helleson for back up goal tender. The only team in the league making that trade is the team getting Helleson. What a ridiculous offer.

avs are not trading a really go D prospect for another goalie, they already have 2 healthy ones on the roster.

Carolina aren't giving up what is basically a late 2nd for TYLER MOTTE. Hard pass, no thanks

Not only does Carolina need Motte, a player, a type of highly regarded for deep playoff runs, runs that Carolina want, they may even give the 2nd for him, not the 3rd listed in the OP post.

Carolina also wanted Eichel, Laine, Klingberg... take a chill pill. They won't overpay for a 4th line guy. And I would love to see any source you've got on this.

have you been absent for the last 20 years?
every deadline, teams wanting deep playoff runs over pay for "4th" liners like Motte......and Carolina will!

Didnt they over pay for JK?

Who's currently playing in the top 9... and has done for most of the season? And no, I do not believe they overpaid to get him.

Name me one time Carolina (a team that ironically dislikes the idea of rentals) has openly gone out to acquire a rental that they didn't have to get to replace injured players on the team? Stop it. I know the Hurricanes better than you do. They will not trade for 4th liners like Motte when they have better 4th liners in the organization already.
