Because he's not NHL ready and forced to play on that team?

Still, I see zero potential. Samsonov is and will be better

If he's not good enough for MTL, why would WSH want to trade for him?

I had been wondering this myself. He projected to be a decent goalie if not stellar, and I wondered if perhaps MTL have rushed him?

Not so much rushed as forced into action. Price and Allen out, Montembault has been bad, but not surprising for a 3rd string waiver pickup on a bad team. It's two young goaltenders playing in the worst possible situations, behind a team with no confidence and questionable (at best) coaching.

Primeau will be fine. Goaltenders are rarely a sure thing in later rounds, so he may never make it to the lofty height of NHL starter. He is however getting Price-less experience (see what I did there? Sticking Out Tongue) and an idea of things to work on, which will take time.
The only real issue that should be addressed right now, is exchanging Montembault with a veteran who can take some pressure off him.

I still think he can be a good goalie at the NHL level, I mean he was an AHL All-Star two years in a row and had a very good college stint. I don't blame them for rushing him. He's 5th on the NHL-ready depth chart and all the dominos above him have fallen.

No way Washington would ever take this, but if we talk strictly value, MTL adds a lot. you are asking for the 1G of the future, as well as WSH's top RSD. To pry both away, it would cost quite the overpayment.

This is a typical Hab fan over reaction. Are we actually using this season to see where our goaltending is at? CP will go down to the minors next year and have another great season. Put a good team around him and allow him to grow. He is still very capable of being a starting goalie for the habs in the future.
