Offseason Flat Cap

Description
The Islanders are in an interesting situation, they've had a rough year but I believe in their potential to bounce back from their down year.

Rules: No calling up players with 0 NHL experience.

I will bridge most of the RFA's except for one key RFA. Noah Dobson still has the upside to replace Devon Towes (but likely won't be near as good as Towes).

Next, we address one of the Islanders biggest concerns. Mat Barzal has needed a legit scoring winger for a while and there is one who is potentially available in Patrik Laine. The price is a bit steep but I think he can be a legit scoring supporter for Barzal

Next, we need to clear a little salary and Edmonton is desperate, it's not close to what they got for him but it's a fair deal given the season he's had

Finally, the Islanders need to make an addition to their top 4. Erik Gustafsson is my guy on a solid deal. And Cody Eakin seems like a guy who Lou would get for the 4th line

This team should be able to rebound for a playoff spot and pay Barzal next offseason

Don't get me wrong, love JPG, and 3C is a need on Edmonton, but they just can't have another high priced forward with the shape the D and G is in. Oilers would be much more interested in Varlamov assuming he isn't blocking it with his NTC.

Funny you're worried about the Islanders cap, but have no regard for Oilers cap....who certainly don't need a 5m 3rd centre.

As acting GM of the Islanders (in this scenario that is in no way real as I am not a qualified GM) I do not care for the Oilers cap

That trade isn’t even possible because of the oilers cap space so u should care.

Laine is a 3x 30 goal scorer at 23, had a horrendous year last year, and is back to nearly a point per game this year. He's 4 points behind Barzal in 11 fewer games played.

Raty and 2 firsts might get the discussion going. Laine for Barzal straight up would be pretty close (with the Jackets adding).

Laine has had a negative impact at even strength for the last 4 seasons, when he’s on the ice his team gets caved in and can’t generate any offense. He’s a powerplay specialist.

I wouldn’t even give the isles 2022 1st straight up for Laine and Laine + two 1sts wouldn’t even get you Barzal.

Forbort got the same. Ceci got more, at least Gustafsson puts up points and might preform better with a guy like Mayfeild

Forbort was a massive overpay the minute he got signed. Comparing erik gustafsson in 2022 to cody ceci in the offseason after he played well in a top 4 role is asinine.
