The reality is you've traded Mayfield for about the 90th pick.....Then you traded Holl for two 75th picks. Leafs win big on that exchange, so it ain't happening.

NYI decline
TOR decline
TOR decline

I don't think it makes TOR better overall either.
Engvall is playing great.
Holl has been better the 2nd half.

That is an absolutely horrible return for the Islanders and there is no way they would ever consider it.

The other two seem so irrelevant that I would never consider it if I were the Leafs.

You realize the Isles don't have to trade Mayfield, right? He's got another year at an extremely reasonable cap hit. He's not getting moved unless someone makes a ridiculous offer, which that trade is not.

I dunno, when you can get a 5'9" 5th-round RHD, a 5'9" 25 year old center playing in Switzerland, *and* a 3rd round pick next year? Sometimes you gotta jump on that kinda steal

The Leafs wouldn't offer Engvall for Schenn ever. He's just downright underrated at this point. Everyone seems to think a bottom 6 player needs to be a 20 goal scorer to be valuable but guys like Engvall are great to have. Highly effective defensively and chips in with the odd goal here and there. At 1.25 he's a extremely valuable contract. Schenn on the other hand is a good 7/8 defenceman. He's not a regular in TO but if injuries hit hard, I would be much happier with him in the lineup vs Biega or Dahlstrom.

Not that your statement isn't wrong at all. (It's a do nothing return) However, Mayfield isn't really anything special in his own right and for a possession focus system, he's about as bad a fit as anyone. Mayfield is just big and right handed. He's likely a 6/7 defenceman on a lot of teams. I don't see him as an upgrade over Holl. He's similar to Bogosian but slower.

I've definitely had some back and forth with TML fans on here and I think the consensus has definitely come around to Mayfield not being a fit for Keefe's system. I think the reason us Islanders fans regard him so highly is that he fits in very well with Trotz's gameplan (honestly: check his numbers this year, he's been playing out as a low-end RD1/high-end RD2 for 20 minutes a night while Pulock was hurt), plus the fact that he's got another year at $1.45M. The Islanders really have no need to trade him this season, especially considering they plan to get back to contention next year, so if another team wants to chase after him they're going to have to overpay. There are a few teams where Mayfield would fit in (Boston sticks out as one in my head) but Toronto and NYI are never gonna line up on Mayfield's value.

Boston plays a similar style as TO does. They want to possess the puck as well. Not to the degree of TO but mainly due to a lack of personal, they are not as deep as they used to be. However, Mayfield is a terrific example of a guy benefiting from the perfect system for his abilities. He doesn't ever have to do more than he is good at doing which works great for him. But he can get beat by speed and has little to no puck skills to draw on which in TO's system would expose him big time.

I don't have a dog in this fight but just wanted to point out that Mayfield has been hot garbage when not being carried by Pelech: NST

The way he's played this year, Pelech could probably carry *me* to positive possession numbers this season. I think the best thing you can say is that Mayfield isn't an anchor when he gets called up to play top pair minutes, which is fine for an RD2 making $1.45M and the reason why the Islanders shouldn't just give him away for 2 non-prospects & a 3rd rounder.

That 4th line played together earlier this season and was brutal. Don't see the leafs wanting that combo for the playoffs.
