Description

With most of Buffalo's young players a while away from a pay day (Cozens might get a 3-4 million bridge deal after next year, Power starting his ELC, Nemec, who I would assume Sabres would take at 3 starts his ELC), the Sabres have some money to offer a UFA 1-1.5M over what he would get elsewhere, maybe enticing a UFA to sign in Buffalo with a young team.

Players Added

Power - Assume he leaves NCAA to play in the NHL starting 2022-2023. Will slot in behind Dahlin

Nemec - Assume the Sabres get the 3rd overall pick this year (based on current standings). Nemec would be the selection here to add to the right side.

Domi - Domi hasn't had a great contract year and would probably be looking for a bridge deal. I think he would get 3M on the market at 2 years, Buffalo can offer 4x2. Plus, Domi seems like a guy who wouldn't hate being closer to his home in Toronto.

Subban - Speaking of guys who might want to be closer to home, I wonder if Buffalo could grab Subban for 2-3 M to play 3rd pair RHD, maybe be able to shelter Nemec from some bad minutes if he has to.

Holtby - Give an aging Holtby a chance to be a 1B wuth Ukka to help him develop into a starting G. Holtby/Ukka can split at 40 games each

We need a #1c. We obviously need right d as well, but I'm going center with our pick. You can pick a right d with every other pick. I don't love our centers, trying to build without one just gets us back to the middle.

How far below the cap is this team? You added an extra 0 to both Power and Nemec, and they still have $3M to work with.

Nemec would play another year for sure in Europe, hopefully in a higher quality league like the SHL or Liiga. Then he would probably play a year in the AHL before playing in the NHL

I like the thought process here.
While Domi and Subban are not top line players they are certainly quality performers.
I do not think it this team would be a playoff team but it would be in the hunt and would have more than 80 points next year.

EDIT:
Upon review, I really like this team.
PK just may sign with Buffalo if he is close to his brother Malcolm.
Holtby is a good addition, IDK if he would sign with Buffalo.
I like taking the chance on Domi, again IDK if he would sign with Buffalo.
Given better GK, Power, Krebs, Tuch for a full season the team will be better.
IMO Pysyk would be a better choice than Fitzgerald IMO.
