I'd guess they don't move fiala until the off-season. Plus they get quality pieces for him.

Minnesota will not trade Fiala during the season. These pieces are a bunch if nothing burger and crappy proposal for fiala..a contender isn't trading Fiala for a player in Sanford who will be destined for luxury suite, chris Tierney whose not a good player, and two bad picks.

Hey, welcome to Capfriendly! You're gonna get rolled for that Fiala trade, but Don't take it personally, there's just a lot of passionate hickey fans here lol.

From a value perspective its really not close at all. Tierney and Sanford are both 4th liners on expiring deals, and while Jarventie is a good prospect, that's really only one significant piece in an offer for a bonafide top 6 talent.

EDIT: Hockey fans. No idea if there are passionate hickey fans here.

Minnesota declines for a few reasons:
1) Fiala won't be moved in-season. We are keeping him for at least this spring to help us make a run. If he is traded, it's during the offseason.
2) This package is not enough. Not even close. Tierney and Sanford are rental depth pieces you could acquire for a late-round pick. The prospect we'd get from a 3rd round pick won't play for us for at least 4 years, and his ceiling won't be that high. The same goes for the 2023 5th round pick but greatly amplified. Järventie alone as a boom/bust-prospect with middle of the lineup ceiling won't cut it.

So I'd say that you have to add the Sens' 2022 1st round pick and make this trade in the offseason.

Welcome to CapFriendly!

Welcome to Capfriendly.

Going to take a lot more than that to get Fiala. A Fiala trade to the Sens has been discussed quite a lot around here. Seems like the general consensus from both sides is a draft-day trade for Ottawa's 1st and Jarventie is close in value. I still don't love that idea, but we could definitely use another talented center prospect (Lambert, please) in our pool and Fiala may be a cap casualty.

As a Finnish person, I have followed Lambert extremely closely (our hockey media focuses solely on him lmao). I see a few red flags in him. His offensive play is fine, but sometimes he is just surfing along. His physicality needs work, but that's pretty common for 18-yo prospects. Defense is not his bread and butter, but that also needs a lot of work.

The biggest red flag is that in three years he has swapped teams three times. That's extremely uncommon in Finland. Lambert and his agent have cherry-picked teams with no direction or plan. First, they wanted good training facilities and went to HIFK, then demanded that HIFK, a top team in Liiga, had to give a 17-yo 1st line minutes and powerplay - without first earning them with his play. HIFK obviously declined and Lambert went to JYP, but his play wasn't up to the speed of grown-up professionals. He got frustrated. Now he's back to his first team, Pelicans, even though he originally wasn't happy with them... His attitude seems to be that he wants everything just handed to him, immediately. No patience, whatsoever. That also was the reason he was demoted to Finland's B-squad before the WJC. He was called to the WJC-squad only because of injuries.

So yeah, in a nutshell: take Joakim Kemell, instead if he is available.

That's great insight, thank you. I was not aware that he has bounced around because he has been unhappy with multiple teams.

Lambert explanation was that he was offered a opportunity to play up in competition so he took that opportunity he then had a chance to chance a championship with another team so he took that opportunity when that ended he went back to the pelicans because that's his home town team.
Not sure what is accurate but he is very talented but the team jumping will be scrutinized.

You're totally right that this proposal is bad except that the best piece by FAR is Roby jarventie, who is actually a quality prospect and a high 2nd round pick from less than 2 years ago. His stock has done nothing but go up since that draft

This deal makes no sense because why would they move Fiala for 2 UFAs-to-be depth forwards and not super valuable picks but you're totally missing Jarventie here

Also "bad picks" sounds really weird. I mean a pick can't be negative

I think Dorion is easily the worst NHL GM currently, but can't see him trading Ottawa's1st round pick in 2022.

I'd do Lassi Thomson + Roby Jarventie + 2nd for Fiala but can't go higher than that.

Never know with Dorion though, he's a ticking bomb

I don’t think the Islanders are going to be buyers at the TDL.

As for Zaitsev, I’m sure there will be a playoff team wanting to acquire him, but a deal might be difficult to work out. A playoff team might not have the necessary cap space, and Ottawa is very unlikely to retain unless there’s a huge sweetener, and it can’t be a pick. It would have to be a 20-22 year old quality prospect that isn’t ready to help the current team this season, but could help Ottawa next season.

This isn't NHL22, you can't just add a bunch of random pieces to fill out the value, you have to actually offer up a solid trade or you'll get mocked out of your job as GM
