If the Bruins cannot acquire a top 4 D then some solid D depth that would be tougher to play against in the playoffs and insurance. Smith, DeBrusk and Senyshyn might prosper elsewhere. Laine adds that PP shot. Cap space can be a work around

Red Wings decline. Keep your bust. Staal has a NMC and doesn't want to be traded.

Marc Staal has stated numerous times that he's not waiving his NMC and uproot his family, In fact Wings insider Ansar Khan has mentioned that Yzerman will probably resign Staal with a possible 1-2 year deal.

-CBJ doesn't pick up the phone for that, not in a million years. Smith is good but 32, why is a rebuilding team taking him? DeBrusk has 12 goals in his last 82 games and is most likely expecting an RFA raise this year, and then the topper of having CBJ have to throw in a 5th to get Boston's 4th, picks that are probably going to be within 10-15 spots of each other (assuming Boston picks late 4th and CBJ is picking early 5th.) No.

-Let's start the NJD trade looking at the picks: NYI 4th(probably around 105 overall at this point) for Boston's 3rd(gonna guess it's around 90ish when all's said & done?) It's, again, a minor upgrade, and one that doesn't make up for the difference between Severson & Reilly. NJD hard pass.

-NYI laughs because the general consensus is that Mayfield returns *at least* a 2nd from either TML overpaying at the deadline or St. Louis in the offseason. A 7th D like Clifton & a 4th rounder doesn't get you an RD2 like Mayfield.

-I'd defer to Detroit fans on this, but I don't know what the consensus value on Staal is. Older UFA with an affordable cap hit, I can see a team taking a swing on him, but I could also see Detroit taking a chance on a player like Senyhysn to see if they can unlock his potential. Maybe throw in a mid round pick to make it happen.

Staal has an NMC and and he isn't tough to play against. One of the players Bruins need to avoid.

I think it at least gets BOS a jockstrap. Maybe a mouth guard too.

But no, this is nowhere near enough for Laine.

i said *at least* a 2nd, implying that Mayfield getting a 2nd round pick would be the absolute lowest price that he should get back.
