Well he's an RFA, so you own his rights. Other than that it's an overpayment. He's worth a 3rd or a 2nd depending on the market, but not both.

Lehky gets more. Lundqvist + 3rd / kravtsov
We don't need / want tippet, much rather get a 1st + 3rd
Kulak is fine
We should wait till armia plays better to up his value, therefore he's not leaving yet
Bourque + 3rd makes sense, and we can take khudobin for a 2nd, no less.
Price 50% retained doesn't only return 3 cap dumps and a 1st. 1st + Bourgault + Konovalov + Cap dumps
Drouin gets a bit more, switch the 5th to jusso parssinen

at least you may still get a return if he resigns with someone else, cause he is an RFA. I think he will get resigned for around 3 mill

I was just looking at your cap situation. You maybe be able fit him depending on what Strome re-signs for or whoever you replace him with.

Lehkonen does not get more. Have you guys not learned with the whole Toffoli trade?

You have almost $10M projected cap space next year with only a few free agents.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see Kakko and Blais on the IR, so I missed them.

I made an ACGM a couple weeks ago with both of them. Extending Lehkonen means goodbye to Filip Chytil, but Lehky is better than him.

Edit: Forgive me, it was JT Miller at 50%, not Artturi Lehkonen. But I wouldn't expect Lehk to cost *significantly* more than $2.625M

Not really. Both is reasonable, especially for a team planning to re-sign him for beyond next season, more so if it can be done for under $3M. I still feel it will be a 2nd and a mid round prospect, but if a suitable prospect isn't available, a 3rd or 4th could be a stand-in.

Reaves has been a lot more likeable than I expected him to be at the beginning of the season, but he's just not a good hockey player. Or at least he's not $1.75M good.

The fact that Edmonton’s biggest issue in net has been smith only playing a handful of games to think the solution is to give up anything to add a long term commitment to a guy who played less than smith is baffling. Zero sense and to think that having price and smith as the goalies to start next year costing Edmonton skinner due to waivers I can’t begin to wrap my head around.

Respectfully disagree. Could he get a 2nd? It's possible, but I doubt it. I think a 3rd + mid level prospect is the likeliest return.

That opinion doesn't surprise me, as Lehkonen is underrated in general among casual fans. Always has been. I'm confident NHL GMs and scouts recognize his value though.

I think that's a decent return though. He's a solid bottom-six player, good defensively and puts up around 25 points on average. I don't know why you think players like that should cost more. He's basically Zach Aston-Reese if Zach Aston-Reese could put up about 10 goals.

EDIT: ZAR has had a poor season scoring-wise, but looking back at his stats, he's more physical than Lehkonen and puts up about ten less points a year, which isn't much. ZAR is also equally as good defensively and I'd say ZAR is worth anywhere between a 4th and a 3rd.

I would love Lundqvist out of NYR. Even more so Schneider but I don’t think there’s a chance NYR trades him

He's potentially the best defensive forward available and still an RFA with a modest cap hit. A 2nd+ is in line with similar rentals like Janmark, below similar RFA C who have gone for two 2nds such as Eller and Bennet, and above lesser players of both types who have gone for less than a 2nd.

If Lehkonen is only traded for a 3rd, it will be because Gorton/Hughes are targeting a specific prospect over value.
