What would it take for these defensive forwards

Created by: JackAce91
Team: 2021-22 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 22, 2022
Published: Feb. 22, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rangers unarguably need help defensively. The majority of their forwards are hovering around replacement level. So I've listed a few forwards who I think could help the team solve this problem. I think centers should be prioritized due to the already log jammed wings and the relatively weak middle. What would it take to get some of them? Not all will be available.

Cirelli is highly unlikely to be traded this season, so I am just putting him here as an example as the type of player i think the Rangers should be going for. Offensively capable, but excels defensively.

    Pavelski would be a 1st plus a B prospect

Lehkonen will probably be 2 picks. 2nd + 3rd. I like Lehkonen, but he doesn’t do enough for this team to pay that.

    Cirelli isn’t getting moved

    Not interested in the others.

You can get Connor Brown with 50% retention for a good prospect and a 1st

For the ones who could actually be available, imo the values are roughly:

    Lehkonen - 2nd + maybe a mid-low tier prospect or 3rd
    Pavelski - 1st + mid tier prospect
    Bonino - 3rd + mid-low tier prospect

Have fans making it out like Lehkonen is Gretzky or something. Basically asking for the Rangers whole prospect pool for a depth piece. Don’t get me mistaken Lehkonen is good and worth probably a 2nd+3rd but Rangers shouldn’t be trading Kravtsov, Lundqvist, and picks for him

Idk if ERod is necessarily a defensive FW but at his price for the pens and to a rival? You wouldn’t wanna send that cause it’d be what Canadian fans think Lehko is worth lol, ZAR might be available tho for like a 3-5 range, that would open it up for the pens to try and get a Nick Paul who’s a lil bigger for them, could be a three team deal even

    Those aren’t really interchangeable prospects.

Yeah I only included him as the kind of player that the Rangers need. He is the ideal defensive minded 2nd line center with offensive skills as well. But is just the blueprint for what the Rangers should be looking for.

I feel like, depending on what the Pens do themselves at the deadline, I think you might be able to get ZAR or Simon out of them. They're at the cap so it's money-in, money-out at this time of year and any forward they get probably makes one of those guys expendable.

I think you'd be better off looking for 3C though - if Bonino is available and open to the trade, I think giving up a mid-round and a B prospect to get him to be this year's Dominic Moore would be a big thing for the Rangers

Kravtsov might be enough. Depends on how Gorton views him.
Lundkvist should be enough. Even in light of competing bids.
