Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2022-23 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 4, 2022
Published: Apr. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In short, Bratt and Wood may be offer-sheeted. Zacha will traded. Severson wants to stay. And they will have hard time finding better goalie than Blackwood.

Painful.

I'm just about the biggest Bratt defender you can find and seem to be in the minority opinion that Bratt probably shouldn't make more money than Jack Hughes based on a single season of ppg-ish production.

I've been defending him as an top-line winger for years but it's just kinda hard, to me, to justify matching at a number > jack Hughes. Maybe I do match if Carolina or Nashville is the team that sends it but otherwise its most likely a lottery team making the offersheet so that's two unprotected firsts

Devils should be able to match any Bratt offer sheet

If any team offers Bratt something outrageous, then take the picks

Nope. They’ve got tons of wingers as is. And a draft as deep as this one the second will net a talented piece who just falls out of the first round. Also gives them the freedom to take a chance on Miroshnichenko with the Calgary first and still be able to net a late first round talent prospect with the second. Zacha’s not worth that

i mean, my point would be if they really wanted him, they would probably.offer the pick. i agree with you it might not be a good fit, but if management would be serious about getting him, im sure they would be fine offering that pick. the fact we have 2 other first and another second would make this move make sense. (ONLY if they want him, which we obviously dont know). i dont think either of us wants him, but thats a different discussion. i just feel its a fair price.

You really think that Bratt gets over 8 mil aav on his next contract? 65 points in 64 games is really good, but that’s almost double his previous career high. That would be a number that would be long term and someone hoping this wasn’t an abnormal season in production.

Bratt seems like a perfect player to get a 1 (maybe 2 depending on his RFA status) around 5.5 to make sure he is the real deal of an over ppg player or not. He has a career .661ppg (.005 from being a perfect devil number, sorry, not sorry.)

Didn't realize it was over 8M, that seems unrealistic. I seriously doubt any team would do that for the reasons you mentioned. There's a reason offersheets are rare

Is Wood really worth $4.1 million+ on his next deal? His QO is $3.5 million which would be a 2nd round pick

Boston only has $4,500,000 for 3 more player they're not in position to be throwing any kind of offer sheet at any one.

On the podcast, they did emphasize Montreal’s interest in Zacha. So that is where I am getting that from.

Neither do I. I think Devils resign him to 2-3 years right around his QO amount.

No, but the Devils would match anything less than that. It's a dumb conversation anyway. Giving guys coming off their ELC an offersheet is stupidly under-utilized in today's NHL. Offersheeting guys coming off of bridge deals just seems dumb.

If he is healthy, he probably earns that. But he had major hip surgery in late October and is just getting back. Speed is still there. Stamina is not.

I used Boston since that is where he grew up playing and I think there was some talk about Bruins interest in him last year. Really could be any team, but it’s an unlikely offer-sheet.

So your saying Zacha is worth a 1st and 2nd because thats what both picks pretty much are.

Zacha's career high is 35 points. Hes 24 so no longer a prospect. Hes a 3rd line center at best. Youre getting a 3rd and Cam Hillis at most

He was on nearly 60-pt pace last year. He has basically been a very different player on wing vs center (0.7 points-per-game as winger, 0.4 ppg as center).

He could probably get a 2nd. But Devils GM has said he isn’t looking for picks back, so more realistic trade would be a winger coming back. I am just summarizing what was said on a podcast today.

nope, im saying he might be worth an early second an early third, because this is what those picks are.... but you are right about one thing, 3rc is kind of what you are gettin from him, maybe a ayer that can jump up the line up if there is injury and be somwhat efficient for a time. now, the question is, how much is a a good 3rd center thats 24 and still rfa worth? the answer is more than a 3rd and hillis. and if somehow you dint believe me, go look at what 3rd c got in the last few years that were around his age.

Sam Bennett is probably the comp for Zacha. 2nd plus okay prospect.

$4.1 seems like a lot for a guy who plays at a 30pt pace, but can't stay healthy. His style of play (while fun to watch) will continue to take a toll on his body.
