Coyotes definitely would not make that trade, especially with the retention

You should be ready to pay the Eichel price. That involves a real player coming back as well as a top prospect. Someone like Beauvillier.

Sitting here chuckling thinking "The reaction by Isles fans if a similar package was offered for Barzal would be hilarious".

Edit: By the same logic of trading Marner if the Leafs don't make it out of the first round, shouldn't you be trading Barzal because he didn't get you to the playoffs?

Toronto starts the ask at Dobson+, their fans would burn down the city if they traded Marner for this package.

This site just keeps getting better and better 😂

IF Marner was getting moved and that’s a big IF (likely isn’t happening) it starts much higher than this. Must involve a young NHL roster player, top prospect or young player with limited experience, then you can talk picks. It’s not going to be players you want to give up.. if it doesn’t start with Wahlstrom or Dobson or something like that, it ain’t happening.

I’m fully expecting back lash from it cause this site is hilarious like that, but it takes something good to get something good. You don’t get a top 10 NHL player for cheap!

As much as I like Mitch Marner, I don't think that we get him. Maybe if we add Beauvillier into that deal, MAYBE, but I don't think we get him.

That's not remotely enough for Marner. You just can't really trade him and win.

Any trade on this site involving the Leafs and Islanders is going to be just insane in the comment threads. Islander fans almost entirely hate the Leafs more than they like the Islanders because JT left them. So they will only approve absolutely insane 1 sided trades. Barzal for example would cost Matthews at 50% retained and 2 1st rounders. Matthews is a cap dump as well.

Eichel was injured, has never produced as much as Marner and demanded a trade. Marner would get a better package.

I highly doubt Marner would get moved but I think the starting price would be Dobson, Wahlstrom, and a pair of firsts, which still probably would not get close to getting it done. Marner is a generational talent, and unlike Eichel there's nothing forcing Toronto's hand so the price would be a lot higher. Marner is almost definitely untouchable.

agreed - Eichel got that package based on the *potential* he would come back and play like he had, his neck injury/recovery was pretty much unprecedented.

If you're trading Marner it's not based on potential. I agree, the Eichel package doesn't get him. I think you can start with that package, sure, but gonna have to either upgrade the pieces or add another good piece or two to get the conversation going. I also think the acquisition cost would be high enough that only a couple teams would even consider it, and the Islanders are most definitely not in that group (they'd basically strip their org of any decent players under 23 + give up 1st rounders they actually need to build that package.)

I mean, it's pretty clear that Matthews is a cancer on the Leafs. OiSv% is around .880, which would indicate that his goaltenders this year hate him and refuse to stop the puck with him on the ice because they don't want him to succeed.

Bailey for Matthews straight up is the best I could do.

Agreed. I just dont think that contract is worth what it will take to get him. Hes also very much a pass first guy when we desperately need a star goal scorer. I wouldnt wamt any marner deal.

ooooh i dunno, can they retain just a little?

joking aside - I think that if the Islanders wanted to move Bailey, they should talk with Toronto. Bailey's best seasons were on Tavares' wing, so there's some chemistry there, and I think the entire Josh Bailey Experience would play better on a more offensively-minded team like the Leafs.

Does that mean I want to try and map out what that trade would actually look like? No - I'll leave that for someone who truly wants to watch the world(CF ACGM board) burn.

A Marner trade probably starts with Dobson, Beauvillier and a first, at the bare minimum

Lol so you want an elite two way forward about to break 30 goals and 100 points this season not near his prime yet for a couple of picks, a good prospect, and an average one? How about your first two picks this year, Dobson, and Wahlstrom?
