A long rebuild like KD said

Description
Kane, Toews, and other Blackhawks say they think the rebuild could go quickly like the Rangers and LA, in response KD says "it's not that we don't want to win as soon as possible. It's just when you look at the bigger picture, you realize it might take a little longer than they may hope, perhaps"

I like to see this from KD. As much as I love Toews and Kane, we can't cut corners on our rebuild to get "one last run" from toews and kane. It's just not realistic. I would not be shocked at all if they asked for trades. Kane has recently said he would stay but honestly when it comes down to it later around the draft I would not be shocked at all to see him ask out. Johhny has basiclly done every except comit to the future as well

Davidson also adds the Blackhawks need to add NHL bodies in the net and a few vets to help the kids develop. Finally, he says they want a clean slate with the coaching staff. To me this all but signals Derek King is gone, which I am okay with

Very little chance Winnipeg does that unless Scheifele is moved and then it would only be I'd they didn't get a center back in that deal.

So, I see this particular trade is going to be a daily occurrence?

TOR declines. Buyout makes more sense then sending top prospects to get rid of a contract.

Caps pass. Strome does nothing for them. If they add anything in the offseason it will be a top 6 forward.

Strome's a forward who put up 22 goals and 48 points this season (would've been 4th among Capitals forwards) and has scored at a 51 pts/82 GP pace for his career. In what world is he not a top 6 guy?

I could see the Jets trading for Toews, might be a slightly bigger deal with some more pieces and a 3rd team involved to take a quarter of Toews cap hit, he'd be great to have at a $2.625M cap hit.

Eh he's more of a middle 6 guy I think. He got to play top line minutes with Kane and DeBrincat. His 1.96 5v5 points per game would rank 7th on the Caps forward. His play style wouldn't fit in the top 6, we have enough play makers. Plus we are stacked at center. I like the guy but think Caps will aim higher.

Do you think Backstrom plays out his deal? Feels like I've been hearing his name connected to injuries more often the past few seasons, but I can also admit I don't follow the Caps too closely.

My feeling would be acquire Strome, find someone to take Eller off your hands, and have your C depth go Kuznetsov-Strome-Backstrom-Dowd/McMichael(depends if you want Connor to grow slowly as a 4th line C for a year or two or move him up the lineup to play on someone's wing). Mixing up those top 3 Cs between the two power plays would be absolutely lethal, IMO, and lets you roll 3 solid scoring lines throughout the game.

Outside of this last injury, they've all been fairly minor. I think he will likely play out his deal in DC. Same can't be confidently said about a couple other guys though, mainly Oshie (though I hope to god he's able to play out the rest of his career)

He's a lot better than eller for the same price roughly, and much younger. That's my thinking at least

Yeah we'll be going with McMichael at 3C next season. They probably move on from Lars. Backy has been meh since his hip surgery but McMichael is ready for 2C and they have Lapierre coming. They also love Protas.

For sure but they are going to have McMIchael at 3C next season, maybe 2C and push Backy back to lighten his load.

a 40-50 point C who wins face-offs and plays a 2 way game. at 5.25m thats not a cap dump, its a 2nd at the very least. My preference would be for him to stay but I respect whichever decision Toews decides on.
