You aren’t getting Nylander without a 1st and probably a top prospect, even if they trade him they are selling him for low value. Quality over quantity.

Even with adding Nylander and Murphy, I’m still not sure this is a playoff team, remember Columbus was 20 points out of the playoffs this season, I just don’t see any team that in the playoffs taking a big enough step back that Columbus makes it.

I would absolutely do that for Nylander. Texier is the best piece of that trade, and I think his ceiling is middle-6, 2nd line C/LW. If CBJ landed Nylander without giving up a 1st it would be pretty miraculous, but because of that I doubt the Leafs say yes.

The Murphy trade I'm less excited about. He probably doesn't fit Columbus' window, and it almost makes more sense to just keep Bean. I think one of either Bean, Foudy/Bemstrom, or a 2nd might be worth it. 2 of them would be an overpay. All 3 would make me question Jarmo.

Leafs are in win-now mode before the Marner and Matthews deals are up. I dont doubt we'll be getting rid of nylander if we lose against tampa, but I dont think we trade him unless we get someone to replace him in the deal

I really like Foudy and Bean, somewhat early 2nd, so as a Hawks fan I'd do it, but not sure how others feel.

20 points is a lot but we were also missing a decent amount of players this season, especially 2nd half of the season. If Boone and Tex stay healthy and we don't let our leaders rest at the end of the season like Laine and Zach I feel like that 20 points doesn't show how decent the team was (Also lost Laine for 2 months mid season). I feel like we can be competitive next season IMO if we don't lose players for extended periods of time to injury. BUT I agree we won't be Stanley cup competitive until 2023-2024 if Marchenko and KJ step up. If they don't, the window opens later.

Injuries are just an excuse and everyone deals with them, remember Pittsburgh was without Crosby and Malkin for 4 weeks to start the season and they finished with 103 points. Malkin played in 41 games and Crosby played in 69 games.

As i said, a team would need to take a step back and Columbus would need to take a step forward for them to make the playoffs.

I like Nylander, but trying to get rid of cap and expect little or no cap returned is very difficult with so many teams near the cap. So this summer players like him, don't have a great amount of "trade value"
So I think this is big overpay by Columbus. I get slammed by Leaf fans for saying his trade value is a second rounder, but that's what I think it is.
But the Leafs use that 7m to sign a goalie, for let's say 5m and then they have 3m for Dman or winger

Nylanders hit or miss. Dunno what causes it but some games he’s lazier than lazy, but others he’s not

Whilst the value isn't bad on the Murphy deal, due to the history between the 2 franchises we should push harder. Preference would be to get our 1st back but unlikely in reality.
