What's the Islander's incentive here?

I don’t think theres much of a chance the bruins trade forbort after the playoff he’s had.

I disagree, I think Detroit takes this and runs. I wouldn't give up much more than this, but he's a big, physical, defensive minded LHD. I think he'd be a great partner for Hronek.

He's nowhere near as good for that job as Marcus Pettersson is. Hronek's weakest spot is puckhandling and passing when put under pressure, this manifests itself in lots of giveaways and very few takeaways.

If you compare Pettersson and Forbert in those two areas you'll find that Marcus is way better with 0.74 GA/60 against 1.39 and 0.90 TA/60 against 0.65 for Forbert. Marcus hits a bit more than Derek and Derek blocks a few more shots.

Hronek needs someone that is a rock solid puckhandler that he can offload the puck to instead of giving it away like he often does now. Pettersson fits that bill much, much better than Forbert does.

Now, don't put words in my mouth, I'm not saying he'd be my top choice, but I'd definitely take Forbort over a lot of the other LHD options. My target list for 1 or 2 LHD spots goes like this, in this order(based on fit, cost and attainability): Petterson, Martinez, Forbort, Schmidt, Matheson... After that, it gets into territory of guys I wouldn't be mad about, but definitely wouldn't be excited about (Scandella, De Haan, etc)

We're largely in agreement but the only option I see as a partner for Hronek is Pettersson, no other available player has the skills needed for that job.

For the potential 2nd LD we may need to acquire we need someone with a very different skill set. That player needs to be an offensive D so that we have someone to QB our 2nd PP and he needs to be able to mentor Seider. Forbert doesn't fit that criteria.

I have Schmidt (for his ability to play both sides) ahead of Martinez for that second job otherwise we're thinking alike.

Don't see Boston moving Forbort. He's a huge part of their PK and has been solid in the playoffs.

Don't see BOS or NYI having interest in that deal

Reilly gets traded. Forbort not likely to be.

Isles trade does not make sense for either team.

Wagner 50/50 to be moved. More than likely Lazar leaves as he has priced himself out of Boston. Wags coukd take his spot. Or they could move him and give that spot to McLaughlin.

Coyle could hurt financially in the long term (JFRESH analytics show he is a great PK, adequate finisher, but provides little ES offense or defense) and Beauvillier has not improved to the level NYI probably hoped but he is still a decent player. I think the first allows NY to add a good prospect and not having the risk of Coyle while getting Beauvillier who is a younger player who can hopefully benefit from a better team/change of scenery. Lou loves getting players like Coyle assuming he's the GM still.

Coyle was more productive than Anthony Beauvillier this past season. Boston also doesn't need more wingers

Coyle was a tad better this yr ppg wise than coyle, not the case the previous two yrs. Coyle is no where near a 5M dollar player so to get him out while buying after a low yr on beauvillier who still added a lot more ES offensive WAR value than Coyle would be smart.

Lol FFS are we really getting to a baseball standpoint where WAR is the end all be all? Why just look at his o-war? His more of a defensive minded center. Again Boston doesn't need wingers, they need top 6 C's

I am not a huge fan of WAR but teams that generally focus on getting quality WAR players in the NHL generally finish better in the standings. I can look at dz exits and oz exits and see coyle is below avg in most those microstats and see that beauvillier is an above avg o zone entry fwd. Coyle's 13 ev defense percentile over the last 3 yr sample does not make him a defensive minded center.
