Hughes Trade - hear me out

Created by: Trader0909
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: May 13, 2022
Published: May 13, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
My rationale:

OEL will be a 40-50 pt d man if he gets PP1
Hughes lacks the size and toughness for playoffs
Simon Nemec becomes future #1 D
Belief that Rathbone takes a huge jump next year to be a top 4 D man

Draft Nemec 2nd overall
Draft Owen Pickering 25th
These two picks give them two awesome D prospects

Miller signs extension in CLB and Laine refuses to sign long term
Assume Poolman is LTIR next year

Interesting and well thought out. Will never happen of course but I always enjoy seeing something creative and original. Nice job.

A for creativity. Although I wouldn't move Laine for Miller. Columbus is probably another year or 2 from getting back to the playoffs and Laine will only be 25-26 by then and in his prime. I'd keep him considering they'd got centers in Sillinger and Johnson coming up and whoever they draft this year.

Thanks, I think Roy would be an ideal 3C, with Vegas cap challenge could maybe wiggle him loose with the right offer. Unpopular opinion but I’m not sold on Hoglander, I hope I’m wrong but if the return was a 25 yr old, 6’4 40pt centre I’m doing that trade in a heart beat

Laine is a one dimensional player. I would go with something else there. Hughes is an elite young D and I would want more quality in that package. 2OA is nice, but there are no superstars in this draft that we know of. 23 1st UNPROTECTED instead of the second rounder would be a must if Im trading Hughes.

Absolutely zero interest in Jason Dickinson, who is closer to Austin Wagner than anywhere near Sean Walker.

One dimensional yes, but Laine could pot 40+ year for the next 8 years off Petey’s wing

I don’t think Walker is getting a great return coming off a year on LTIR, this trade isn’t an important one, just moving equal money

The marketing value for NJ would be bonkers having 3 brothers on 1 team, there’s a bump in value IMO because of that.

mercer isnt too special, he's 1/2 point per game and -25, he could be a good player but he probably isnt going to be anything super special
