Thanks for the warm welcome and the kick-in-the-nads responses. First time doing this, and honestly, I didn't expect, or realize, people would comment on my horrible GM skills. I attribute it to being a life-long Leafs fan. You'd think being a Habs fan as well would have countered it, but I guess not. Thanks for all the constructive criticism. You fellers popped my cherry, then stomped the s#it outta it. LOL
And honestly, I think Dubas has created a monster, and I have no idea how we are going to rectify it. He was right on one thing though - we need some AHL players to step up and earn spots, but I just don't know who? Maybe Holmberg, McMann, or that giant feller Curtis Douglas?
Now my idiotic thoughts regarding my trades...
MTL-TOR Trade. Barron is not rated as high as you think. He was traded along with a second rd pick for a 26-yr old 3rd line winger who's a RFA. Byron will be moved, he's 34, overpaid, and MTL doesn't need too many mentors. They're already stuck with Gallagher. Pezzetta is a pipe dream - tough local kid returning home. Everyone s#it's on Holl, but he would be an upgrade over half of the Hab's D. Villeneuve had a solid final season in the Q playing for the Saint John Seadogs, and could be a darling in La Belle Province. Joey Anderson is only 23 if you can believe it, and needs a team to give him a chance. It looked like TOR would be the place, but when Lou left the Leafs, I think so did Anderson's chance to break in with the big club. MTL also saves some cap space with my absurd deal...
LAK-TOR Trade. Wouldn't Muzzin returning to LA to play with his ol' pal Doughty be a great story? LOL. I threw in WIN's 3rd, but it would likely take more. And yeah, I know who Mikey Anderson is. He's a small, soft defenceman who plays a sound defensive game, at least during his 117 career games. He's only 23, but he ain't gonna get any bigger. A plus defenceman during the season, he was a crappy -5 in his first taste of post season hockey. So, yeah again, I know who Mikey is, and there's a lot of d-men like him. The Kings have plenty of cap space, and even a half-concussed Muzzin is an upgrade over Mikey. But.....I thought Mikey Anderson (who I do really like as a stay-at-home d-man) could play both sides on defence. Seeing he doesn't, that's why I flipped him for Mahura, who can play both sides.
VAN-TOR Trade. If Miller stays, this will be his last season in VAN. I was looking at VAN saving on the cap, and including Dickinson, and I just wanna see Highmore in a Leafs jersey. He's got fantastic speed, and still some potential as an energy player. Kerfoot will never be Miller, but is 2 years younger and put up a solid 51-pt season. I'm not so high on Robertson, but what do I know? I think Holmberg could be the x-factor, and make the NHL this coming season. G Woll would compete with Spencer Martin for the B/U role.
My thoughts on the trades were to add some grit to the team. The Leafs are still way too soft. I'd have Pezzetta has 'the man', with Simmonds and Geertsen available when needed. I thought a bench of Simmonds, Geertsen, and Mahura would cover LW/RW/LD/RD, plus they're all on the cheap. Nothing worse than seeing players making millions sitting in the press box because they're not good enough.
