Detroit declines, rebuilding teams don't give up three assets to get one.

A lottery pick in an exceptional draft for bo horvat? Fat no chance.

And yes, Detroit will be a bottom team next season

If I am Ottawa I would take a long look at this.

I really hate to see JDB to be moved, but with Sanderson, Thomson and Kelvin all in the system, I think it is the best chance to make a move like this.

Playing Garland with Stuztle would probably be a great change of scenery and he would likely boost his numbers greatly. Not to mention the current deal he is on would be a steal right up there with Batherson also making sub 5 Mill, and help set up the season cap-wise for a great window to compete.

It will all depend on contract talks. If he is traded, I can definitely see Detroit as the destination with an extension in place. They need a 2C and he is a local kid (London) who was a wings fan growing up.

Jim Rutherford is a big Horvat fan: “I really like Bo. I’ve always liked him back to his junior hockey days,” said Rutherford. “There’s been good discussions with him after the season. He had a good year this year… and he’s got a lot of good hockey left in him. He’s a character guy, he’s a centre iceman that’s hard to find, and we believe that he should be part of our team going forward.”

Don´t agree whit the second part. I think there is higher chance that the Wings makes the playoffs, than that they are gonna pick inside the top 9 in draft. Yzerman is so competitive that he ain´t gonna watch at the same **** next yeartears of joy.

How much you willing to bet they’re a lottery team next year?

Unless it´s a very good young player/prospect. If Yzerman don´t see a future with a certain prospect, he is gonna trade him. There is no way i would do this trade, but i don´t know why so many are against the traiding option. We are not Arizona bad anymore. I think there is higher chance that we make the playoffs, than that we are drafting in the top 8 again.

Lottery team, probably. But not Connor Bedard bad. Or what do you consider being a "bottom team"? 27-32? 21-26?

I’d consider a bottom team selecting in the top 10.

We were 8th last this season, so realistically i could see the Red Wings finishing where Islanders / Jets finished this current season. If Yzerman really improves the team this offseason and the new coaching staff works right away, i could see us maybe even making the playoffs. Maybe similar results than LA.

Are you more on the side of traiding the guys who are 25 or older for high draft picks/prospects and then building around Seider, Raymond, Edvinsson...etc.
Or do you think Wings should really start to improve the team and go for it?
There seems to be 2 types of Wings fanstears of joy

If Detroit really wants Horvat, they'd make a bid when he hits FA next season. No sense spending assets on him when he's only a season away from being available.

I’m in between those. I don’t think you should have a team of youngster but at the same time only acquiring core guys that fit your window & trading assets in the final year if they don’t fit the criteria I just mentioned. We’re lacking LD & C in the top 4 & 6 respectively. I don’t want to put a bandaid in there but rather build organically. The problem is every team is improving to a certain extent so sometimes it isn’t a linear growth in the standings when rebuilding

What on earth makes you think he will get to free agency?

I doubt Horvat actually gets moved, but at this point everyone outside of Hughes, Demko, Petey and most on ELCs is probably on the table if the price is right.

I doubt anybody knows if Horvat will hit free agency or not in real life. As far as this ACGM, trying to trade him indicates that either Vancouver isn't looking to keep him long term and is trying to get value for him, or that Horvat was unlikely to resign.

Well I think we can make a real good educated guess here. How often do teams let a very good 2C walk to free agency at 28 years old? Get back to me on that. If for what ever reason Bo isn't signed to an extension in Vancouver, there are two things I am very sure of:
1. He will get traded.
2. The team that trades for him will resign him and thus he won't hit free agency.

BTW, neither "indication" is accurate. Vancouver IS looking to resign him and all indications are Bo wants to resign, but if the $$$ and term don't fit Rutherford's projections, there is a slim possibility that Bo gets moved.

First thing that comes to mind is Tavares, although he definitely wasn't a 2C at the time. Supposedly, he claimed to want to resign, then bolted in the offseason. Could Horvat do that? Possibly, but I would highly doubt that.
I agree with both thoughts, it's very unlikely that Horvat would hit free agency, and if a team did trade for him, they'd very likely resign him. It doesn't make sense for Detroit to spend assets for him, as they need more pieces than Horvat to be competitive. All I'm saying is if Detroit thinks they have the other issues sorted out, it would be smarter to bid for him in free agency instead of trading premium assets needed for the rebuild.
