The Rangers might consider this in my view. There is concern about the cost. The Rangers have $49+M already tied up in 6 players, most with NMCs and NTCs. They have another $3.4M ties up in buyouts. That leaves them with about $30M to pay for the supporting cast. Christian is under contract for three years at an attractive price $4.45M. His FO% is outstanding. and his Point production is acceptable. Centering for the Breadman for a full season should give his production numbers a boost. So Far, So Good. Rem also provides good point production, but not much help on face offs. He would be playing NYR 3rd line C if NYR took the deal the deal. I'd move Chytil to LW which where I think he belongs. But he has size and strength which is useful at wing. Rem is an RFA who should be work just a bit less than Christian. He is currently at $917K. Let's say he goes to arbitration at get's only $3.5M, a conservative estimate. Vitali costs $875K. When you net out the additional cost to do the swap you add $7.1M for Christian and Rem, and now we are at 56+M for 8 players. that leaves approximately $26M for the rest of the supporting cast (14 players). Goodrow and Reaves (combined $5.4M) aren't going anywhere - Gallant would be apoplectic if they were. A backup goalie and re-singning Kappo for a combined $3M conservatively. I'm now up have $17.5M left for 10 players. There is another $5.8M for players under contract that will surely be on the roster. $11.7 left for 5 players. Looks promising, but we haven't dealt with Nemeth, who will cost at least $1M and add another $1M for free cap space. we have $9.7M left for 5 players. Let's take a look at 23-24. The have to re-sign Laffy, Filip and K'andre. That will cost them say and additional $7-8M which will be offest by by $3.M mil coming off the books. So they need to leave room for that. I'll stop there. Even if it's works it's extremely tight. Now let's look at the draft picks you propose. A second rounder is a fair ask. But it won't be in 22 as the Rangers currently only have 4 picks and would not have a pick until the fourth round. So let's say a second rounder in 23. The Habs have a little leverage regarding the second pick if the NYR want to make the deal. Christian and Rem have value but a second second rounder would be a deal killer. A fourth rounder at best, a fifth or sixth rounder more likely. I'd rate this one possible but doubtful assuming the draft pick difference is resolve.
