I was pissed when we initially made the deal but after sleeping on it I like it a lot more. Romanov should be a good partner with Dobson, as he is essentially just an upgraded version of Chara and Greene from last year at half the age! In all seriousness, he is a physical defender who is young and has upside as a puck-mover due to his good skating ability, which should make him a good partner for the offensive-minded Dobson. Plus, he will come cheap for the next few years, enabling Lou the ability to sign a top-flight free agent, i.e., Gaudreau, Forsberg, Nichushkin, or Burakovsky.

Although the 13th pick may have been a bit rich for Romanov, the cheap, immediate help he will provide is likely better than what the 13th pick would have provided, and any better options likely would have included a package centered around the 13th pick.

Also I only signed Chara because his mentorship for Dobson last year was incredible, and I think having him as an 8th defenseman, but really as a mentor, for Romanov, Salo, and in this case Jacob Bryson would be invaluable.
