I’m sure WPG asked for the 1st overall pick and MTL obviously declined, and that they have Dach it will not be happening, if it ever was.

Dach and Dubois are hardly inter-changeable lol. And the report came after that Dach trade happened so if it was based on good intel then the negotiations are still ongoing.

I assume it starts with Florida's 1st next year and Dvorak, but i'm not sure what gets added, but theres obviously more needed.

To meet MTL's cap / positional needs I would think Dvorak and a winger would have to be going the other why.

Begs the question, why trade Romanov for Dach though.

because you dress 4 centers. Poehling has had his chances and hes more impactful on the wing, this would mean the habs go Dubois, Suzuki, Dach Evans down the middle. For a team rebuilding i think they would be pretty happy with that as their center group going forward, especially if they were to lock Dubois up long term this summer. Theres an outside chance Romanov isnt even back in the NHL next year.

Gotta be something to this considering he basically never reports on "rumors"

But a little odd that no one else is talking about it...

Romanov is in back in North America, he is in Miami right now. Islanders wouldn't give up 13th overall for a player staying in Russia.

The point is why trade Romanov (a fan favourite who could play top 4 D) for Dach if you plan on making him 3C. One of the C's could move to the wing but MTL is crowded there as well.

I originally thought Dubois would be a fit with Suzuki and Caufield, but then we just got Slafkovsky.

Maybe they go:
Drouin - Dubois - Dach

Dach is terrible at faceoffs.

A Dubois trade would have to start with Dvorak + FLA's 1st + another A/B+ prospect (Guhle, Ylonen, Roy, Kidney, Farrell, Mesar, ect.). I wouldn't like that as a Habs fans.

This type of trade feels like cutting corners on the rebuild (i.e. TOR signing Tavares to big money before they were a contender). Give the prospects the time they need to develop.

As great as Dubois would be for the Habs, this trade doesn't make sense to do this year. Habs doesn't have enough cap space now but will next year. Wait until next offseason and go for him then if he's still available.

Not to mention the guy who covers the Jets for the Athletic responded to the tweet thinking it's legit too...

I believe the Habs have a done deal sending Jeff Petry away, the other team is waiting for MTL to pay the $3M salary bonus tomorrow.

Part of the Petry return would be packaged with Christian Dvorak and other pieces for Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Ya i think Dach is most likely to move to the wing but i also expect MTL to give him a chance down the middle, especially seeing as Dvorak will have to be included in this deal i would think. Habs have the time to be patient. t
And i fully agree losing Romanov was tough, love watching him play, but i think they feel confident in the crop of young dman coming up that they could afford to move Romanov and give those minutes to the younger players coming.

I do think that the deal will need to favor the jets pretty substantially to get a deal done at this point. Given everything thats happen in the last 6 months or so i dont see Hughes making an impulsive deal here and overpaying.

That does make a lot of sense… and I’m sure MTL has no issues paying the $3mil to get the deal done.
