Was this a good signing?

Jesse at $3M is much better value than Foegele at $2.75M. I think it's Foegele that gets moved - especially with the logjam at LW.

I don't know how they plan on signing McLeod and Yamamoto. They're $3M over the cap now assuming Klefbom is off LTIR. Won't they need to move someone else besides Foegele? Perhaps Barrie?

Seeing that Klefbom is not coming off LTIR. I guess that solves some problems.

Klefbom is not coming off LTIR. McLeod probably gets a one-year deal under or at $1M and Yamamoto within 1.1x of what Puljujarvi signed for. They only need to move Foegele.

I'd like for them to move Klefbom and Smith as well in order to accrue cap space, but that's neither here nor there.

I sense a trade coming soon for EDM, even with Smith being on LTIR. Klef coming back is going to make their cap situation really tough

Klef is coming back? Thats awesome, I thought we were afraid his career was over?

Given the lack of attention to detail by so many I am going to jump on the train here too. Klefbom is coming back. Even wilder is Seabrooks announcement this morning. Now what the heck is Tampa going to do??

Are you're sure that's true? You're correct on the active roster vs games played, but his HockeyDB shows that he played in 39 games in the AHL that season. Was he on the active NHL roster for 40+ games?

Yes. It's been speculated for years that this was negotiated by his agent, as his play didn't warrant it.

Here's a quote from today's article at ON:

According to PuckPedia, Puljujarvi will be an RFA with arbitration rights next offseason and will be owed a $3-million qualifying offer. He will be one year away from unrestricted free agency.

Fair enough. CapFriendly transactions shows that he was sent to the AHL at the beginning of January in 2017. If he was on the NHL roster for 40+ games, it's only barely.

I was unimpressed by his play in the playoffs.

If I'm EDM, he's the one leaving for capspace.

It is impossible to judge this deal until we see what the Oilers get for him in the trade. This is a "bad" deal for the Oilers, because they are essentially admitting Puljujärvi isn't going to stay with the team.

There is an interesting side note to this contract....yes he gets $3mil for the season....but the Oilers get the right to advertise on that huge forehead of his for each game.
rumour has it that a bidding war has broken out between The Brick and Captain Morgan for forehead rights.

Before Jan 29 2022 Puljujärvi scored 24 points in 36 games averaging 17:22 ice time and after he scored 11 points in 29 games averaging 14:43 time on ice. Given his entire 2022 was pretty bad points wise you still cannot ignore that date.

I think I've got it! That's when Evander Kane arrived and took his spot in the lineup. So are you trying to say that if he can play in the top 6 he can be pretty effective, or that he's really not that good because anybody can score at a 2/3 PPG pace with McDavid or Draisaitl?

I guess they should have traded him as soon as they saw that Kane was a better fit. That might have been more of a "sell high" scenario.
