The opinions I’d like to know, just how much more would Calgary have to add in a deal like this one? I’d be guessing a draft pick or picks. I’d be guessing between 1st and 3rd as the prices thrown in. Personally I’d be feeling a 1st and 3rd

Montreal does have some extra cap space to work with but a need for a back up goalie isn’t super high but Jake Allen still wouldn’t be a bad addition. I’m intrigued to say the least

We need to get younger in front of net and I think Vladar can fill the spot. With Vladar Primeau (Laval) and Montembeault we can put Price on the LTIR if needed. We also need another RHD so Meloche can help us to refill our depth chart a bit.

Calgary probably just gambles on a healthy monahan, and possibly just letting him walk, then giving up picks or prospects in this deal. Just don’t want to sell low on monahan.

Calgary shouldn't add anything because they should avoid that trade completely. Horrible asset management.

Dvorak is an inferior 3C to Backlund, the goal should be to move Backlund down to 3C, not force him to keep playing 2C into his late mid/late 30's. Monahan only has 1 year left so either he bounces back or you cut ties and swing for the fences in the next 2 summers (which have stacked FA classes).

Don't think the Habs take it, not only do they take on more cap, but they downgrade Dvorak without getting any futures.

Considering the habs are giving up 2 good assets at good price points and taking back a major cap dump it would be atleast 2 blue chip assets (1st round picks or A prospects) and another secondary asset.

The Flames lack a blue chip centre or RD prospect so they would have to get creative so maybe something along the lines of a 1st wolf and zary.

First of all, yeah right to the quoted bit above!!

Second in response to the original post, Calgary doesn't look at this deal for more than a half second before throwing it away and never thinking about it again. Dvorak isn't good, let's start there, he's had as many seasons with 35+ points as an injury riddle Monahan has had seasons under 30 points, only 2, people could also argue that Monahan gets over 30 points if those weren't shortened seasons. Monahan bouncing back to half the form he was pre injury is a better player than Dvorak, if he doesn't bounce back to that form then Calgary washes their hands of his deal after this season without giving up any assets and without having to lock themselves into 30 - 35 point C with frankly really bad possession numbers. I know a lot of Habs fans want back what they gave up for Dvorak, but just because Montreal overpaid doesn't mean another team will.

Have you been under a rock for the last 2 years or did you just forget Covid was a thing. Dvoraks 82 game pace over the last 2 years is 48 points he isnt a 30-35 point centre. He has more points over the last 3 years than Monahan does.

". Monahan bouncing back to half the form he was pre injury ". You must be joking.

Monahan at this point is a 1-2 million player making over 6. His body will likely force him to retire in the next year or so. Until he officially goes into LTIRetirement he is a massive negative value asset.

You are out of your mind here. Last three seasons Dvorak PPG is 0.56, Monahan 0.54 while isolated possession metrics are a joke for Dvorak, and you want Calgary adding blue chip pieces to rid themselves of one year of a contract? Since when is he retiring? Insiders and Treliving have said that he's on pace for opening night and has been skating since June.. so I mean, unless your sources are better than the GM's I guess we can disregard your point there.

Points you are struggling with:
- Habs overpaid for Dvorak in a panic, no team is giving them close to decent return on investment there
- Dvorak's possession numbers are bad.. really bad. Why would Calgary look to bring in a 30 - 40 point C with bad analytics?
- Monahan is overpaid due to injury, unfortunate, sure but is what it is, Dvorak is just overpaid and on a contract or 3 more seasons, why would the Flames strap into that when they could have 6.375M in cap next off season?
- If the Flames need cap space why would they not move Lucic who is prime for a cap floor team? Low salary, high cap hit.

Go look at possession metrics.. it's embarrassingly not even close.

Well, considering habs paid a 1st and a 2nd for Dvorak without a contract even if he had a rought start (finished the season really strong under MSL) they ain't trading him for less, Dadonov 50% retaind should realistically return a 2nd and taking back so much cap space will cost as well, so a trade would be a Pelletier, Monahan, and a 2023 unprotected 1st for Dvorak, Dadonov 50%, and a 2024 2nd

This is such a joke it’s insane. You have to be so biased, blind or stupid to think this is the case. Pick one. Go look at the list 3 years of Monahan and Dvorak, look at the metrics, the stats, the eye test. Why would the Flames bring in Dvorak at all when they could just walk away from Monahan if it doesn’t work out this year? I sincerely doubt the Flames brass would do Monahan for Dvorak 1 for 1 this season
