I agree Mayfield isn’t a fit in Carolina. That being said he’s played top four minutes for the past four years and pretending otherwise is silly.

Mayfield should be the first guy out the door if the team is out of contention come TDL - I don't think you can accurately call his landing spot though because it'll be super dependent on who needs a guy like him (ie, even though the Canes have depth at that position in August, who knows what injuries happen by February!), but I do think the value of a good prospect & a high pick is fair. He should honestly beat the Chiarot package if only because you can retain him down to almost nothing ($725K) and he's a right hand shot (rare!).

Same with Varly - I think with retention you get a good asset back but it depends on who thinks an upgrade in goal is what gets them over the hump. Personally, I almost would want Lou to offer him out to Vegas *now*, since they know Lehner is out for the year and they've got a lot of nothing on hand (Brossoit is a backup, and Logan Thompson is still young and not all the way there yet). Retain down and/or get back Brossoit and I think Vegas will throw in a very nice asset for your troubles.

I actually think they'd keep Parise even if they're out of contention. Lou obviously likes the guy, he plays hard and can play anywhere in the lineup, and I'm sure there's some unspoken NTC involved in his deal. I only think Parise gets moved if he *wants* to get moved to chase a ring.

it's a double edged sword. I don't think the Isles get Trotz with Garth Snow still on board as GM, so they don't see the success they've had in 3 of the past 4 years without Lou. But I agree with the other poster who's saying Lou has a short shelf life - he's great for coming in and cleaning up a mess but if you let him stick around too long you're going to have a completely different type of problem. The Isles in 2018 had a mess of a roster with no depth and no coach when he took over - as annoyed as I am by this summer, I still think this team is in a better spot than they were when he took over.

It depends, he did sell off Leddy and fleeced yzerman, but it’s not common.

I only expect the team to be bad if Bailey and the 4th line have the same role as last season. If they give the younger guys a chance to break out I think they’ll be in a WC spot

No the Isles sucked before Lou got there Lol. He brought in guys like Varlamov, Trotz, etc. Lou knows how to immediately improve a team and establish a good structure. But like Bill Parcells at the end of his career, he needs to pass the baton off after 2-3 years.

Without Lou, the Isles don't recover from Tavares leaving and they never go to the b2b ECF.
