Why would Matthews demand a trade? If he doesn't want to be in Toronto, he justs plays out his contract in Toronto where he's having great statistical seasons and then goes wherever he wants in FA and gets paid.

Also Matthews leaving doesn't make Tavares or Nylander expendable

He made the bold assumption that Larkin would be let go as a FA, and signed him.

Larkin is captain for what was I'm assuming his childhood team, who drafted him, not sure why he would want to leave after suffering for all those years when things are just about to get better.

Lol at that Tuch trade. Zero chance they trade their future captain for that disaster of a contract

You take the salary cap and throw it out the window, and the Sabres probably have to consider at least part of that for half a second. Unfortunately, salary cap...

ZERO CHANCE the Sabres would do either trade

Tuch is likely about to be named Captain for us,
and i can’t see us having interest in Nylander

Hey it would be Panarin 2.0... we'll get him for 2 years and then he moves in Free Agency.
We end up getting him because we can offer the best combination of prospects/picks.

Even worse - this trade is for '23-'24. We get him for one season.

That's more than I'd be willing to offer for one year of Matthews. Especially given the cap hell it'd put us into.

I didn't realize it was only for 1 year lol.. i wouldn't do that deal either. Leafs aren't moving him anyways, if he leaves he leaves.. they have him for 2 more years. There's nothing you could trade for that equals prime Matthews, might as well see that as your window and go for it.
