K seems like I've vastly overestimated Ristolainen, my bad. In that case, what's the best RHD I could get with that same package who is less than 5.5 aav and with 2+ in term?

Why would you want to though? Why not keep all those and wait 2 years for Niemela to be a full time player. We don't need RD

The idea was to get a win now D for the last two years of the core contracts but I take the point that Niemela could and probably will develop into what this scenario would be trading for. Anyways, just spitballin

I mean I'm a fan of Jeannot myself but for that return I'd make it work I would think, I feel it's at least a good offer

Its a ufa rental and a small winger prospect. We have tons of good wing prospects and have been migrating on purpose away from small players. Makes zero sense for Nashville. You dont trade jeannot for a propsect in an area you have several good prospects in. If he was a high end center prospect, thatd require more thought

that's the thing, there simply arnt any win now D out there that are available for anything that would make sense for the leafs. They dont need one bad enough. Their biggest issues are 2LW and hoping the goaltending can at least Kuemper them through the playoffs.

Jeannot's one of those cases where his value to Nashville significantly outweighs what he (should be) worth on the market. He's 25 with just over a single season in the NHL and he shot just under 20%.
He's cheap and might be pretty good so Nashville isnt gonna move him for anything but a rediculous over pay and no team should pay that because there's a really good chance he's not near as good as he looked last year.

Rather have Muzzin for two years than Risto for five. And expect the Leafs to to give up assets too? Two bad trades for the Leafs.

Problem with jeannot and Nashville is jeannot is exactly the kind of winger they want in the role hes in. We have skill guys coming up through the ranks (Evangelista, Kemell, L'Heureux) and young players that could use more ice time (Tomasino, Tolvanen, Trenin, Jeannot). We are pretty solid at wing depth so this particular trade doesnt make much sense to me. Even if the trade was for a high end center prospect i think Poile would have a hard time trading Jeannot simply because hes the embodiment of what Poile sees as the Predator identity. Even if his production slips, he still brings alot to the game. Hes known for staying on the ice after practice and asking coaches what in particular he needs to improve on and then working on it. He has a real drive for becoming the best player he possibly can. Work ethic can be infectious so its good to have a guy like him around

oh for sure, like Nashville has no reason to move him even if he's just a 20 goal 40 point guy he's cheap and fills a needed role. The production dip is only really an issue for a team who tries and potentially succeeds in trading for him. It's basically a Brandon Hagel sort of thing, he got a comedic amount in a trade despite having what amounts to one good NHL season as an older rookie type and Tampa bet a lot that he's that guy going forward on a cheap contract.

Not even with a linemate like Jeannot to protect and clear some space for him. I think Robertson's ceiling is elite AHL scorer, but fringe NHler.

its funny because jeannot is 4 years older and has played in the ECHL played his first real season at 24 and preds fans talk about him like hes a superstar and robberston who just turned 21 whos has a much higher ceiling than jeannot is going to be a bust and AHLer, lmfao at least make it make sense, anti leaf bias is real

Why does any opinion that doesn't praise the Leafs get dismissed as "anti leafs bias" with this fanbase? It's tiresome.

Do you think Robertson is going to have a growth spurt at 21? He's smaller than the Coyotes' new arena, more fragile than a Toronto Sun columnist's ego, and I don't like his skating.

Jeannot probably won't repeat last season's scoring pace, with the Preds seemingly content to keep him on the 3rd line, instead of putting him into the top six. Still, that's just one aspect of his game. He's the closest the NHL has to the next Tom Wilson (minus the lack of composure) right now. I'd much rather have that, than the second coming of Darren Haydar.
