Winnipeg shouldn't trade their 1st round pick unless they are having a regular season like FLA or COL did last year.

Looks like McLeod is staying with Edmonton.

Nyquist would be an okay pickup, but Winnipeg should not be trading their first the next couple years for anything less than a star player and definitely not for any rentals.

No way the jets deal their first for one year of Nyqvist, especially at the deadline
I do like the optimism that the jets will be in contention for playoffs at the TDL though

Hmmmm I see all of you believe the Jets shouldn't be trading their high picks. I see them honestly having a pretty good prospect pool with Lambert, McGroarty, Zhilkin, Salomonsson (just starting to realize how great of a draft you had. All 4 of those guys were in my top 36), and Lucius, with Perfetti graduating to the NHL. Just wondering why you guys wouldn't want rentals?

Jets need to hold onto their first rounders so they can develop players in their system and have them under team control. They aren't gonna get top free agents so dealing a first rounder for weeks of a player doesn't make any sense. Also, Nyqvist's value isnt a first...if they were gonna trade that first it should be for a better player with term IMO

For me, I just can't see the Jets being enough of a threat to go deep on the playoffs to warrant moving their first.

Unless your team is a true playoff-competitor, I don't think you should be moving an asset like a 1st, regardless of how good your farm is.

And frankly, I don't know where to read WPG - I don't really see them as any more than maybe a fringe playoff team right now. I might be mistaken, but outside of Perfetti (kind-of), aren't you guys just rolling the same team back from last year? Except, without a captain, I guess.

That being said, CBJ would gladly accept.

The Jets shouldn't be trading their 1st round pick, they're a middling team at best and this draft is supposed to be deep.

If anything they should be selling Dubois, Wheeler, DeMelo, Dillon and maybe Scheifele to collect picks and prospects.

Do think Chevy should've inquired about Nyquist though, I would've taken him off Jarmos hands with a 2nd so they could've kept Bjorkstrand.

To be clear, what I'm suggesting is:

To Winnipeg: Nyquist, Cbus 2023 2nd

To Columbus: Future Considerations *conditional 5th round pick in 2024 dependant upon Jets making the playoffs and Nyquist getting 40 points.

Nyquist doesn't have trade protection, if I'm Chevy I'm calling Jarmo and seeing if this interests him as soon as I hear about the Gaudreau signing.

I wish you were Chevy.

Word is teams were circling once they heard about the signing. Ask from most teams was a 1st+ (with a lot asking for Marchenko). Bjorkstrand was one of the few moves the team had where they could plausibly not have to give up serious assets.

Strange how greedy they are at some points and then at the draft Chicago helped Toronto out big time and all it cost TO was moving down in the draft a bit.

Knowing Chevy he probably didn't even call.

He must have called Jarmo's brother instead of Jarmo.

Ol Chev probably called his boat mechanic by accident and then got in a long convo about the boat and once he was off the phone totally forgot about maybe making a trade and then he had lunch and took a nap.

Maybe he got sidetracked while talking with Dubois about the comparative advantage that Home Depot Pro Desk has over Lowe's VIPpro.

Chevy: Hey Pierre

PLD: Hey Chevy, calling to see what I'm thinking about a contract extension?

Chevy: Oh yeah that thing, no no I'm calling about
Home Depots Pro Desk offerings, I do most of my renovation shopping for the lake house at Lowes but I'm wondering if I should switch to Home Depot, figured you'd be the guy to ask about that.

They accidentally called his brother Janne.

Still didn't amount to anything, since there was no trade between Winnipeg and Nashville (which, fun fact, Janne is a scout for).
