if mangement wants to win they arent doing a great job handling this aging core. if they wanted to win they wouldve kept our young talent that has been traded away.

Finally a good move from VAN. Bear has the skillset to play with Hughes. Good two way minute muncher

When Jonathan Quick retires LAK might be in big trouble

As Cal Peterson looks awful and is making 5mill for 2 more years

Agreed, IMO there is still a good player there in Bear.

Toronto passing on Bear to me suggests that they have a bigger target in mind but first they want to see how Lily does when he returns

Still wonder who it is.

And no its not Chycrun as he had a setback and wont be back till like December

It's weird because he really hasn't proven he's anything better than at best a #5 defender and any player with salary in the NHL is worthless

Eh, I think it's an even trade. Bear was obviously not in Carolina's plans and that 2.2 million is an anchor. Vancouver is decent place right now for him to get his game back and hopefully secure a place either there or somewhere else long term. Both teams got what they wanted.

I think a Christian Dvorak is even more enticing

Both teams got what they wanted? I kinda disagree.

Since Carolina got pretty much nothing.

Either this site collectively overrates Bear or they had an ulterior motive behind the trade. Nonetheless, to me it seems like a clear Nucks fleece. Especially since they got Canes to retain some salary, too.

Carolina wanted to get his contract off their books and they did. The 1.8 million they saved is more valuable in the long run then having Bear sit in the pressbox.

Bear has good advanced stats, but those are playing very limited 3rd pairing minutes and that's likely where he tops off. Good trade for the Nucks, but players with Salaries are worthless in today's dead cap era

Ehh I still would've justified seeing at least a third going other way. It's true that Bear is playing relatively sheltered minutes in Canes, but I'd argue it's not because he's not good enough to play higher in the lineup but rather because Canes right side is relatively deep as it is. Travis freaking Dermott cost a third too for VAN, and I'd consider Bear better than him.

That being said, he needs to prove my point in Vancouver.

Canes ruined Bears value by never playing him, I will never understand why in the world they played Jalen Chatfield over him.
