If the Canucks are going through a 5-year rebuild, they shouldn't trade Demko (unless he wants to be noved) because:
1) He's only 26, so he can be expected to be a solid goalie into his 30s. So, they will have a goalie when they want to compete.
2) Allows for any goalie prospect in the system or to be drafted, to develop without being rushed. Goalies can easily need 5 years to develop.
3) He can be traded later if and when Martin breaks out.
4) They may decide to do a 5-year rebuild but it's probably not going to be a full teardown rebuild with guys like Pettersen and Hughes being traded. So, perhaps they find themselves in the playoffs in year 2 or 3 of the "rebuild".
3 trades that they should make, that they probably could is trading away Horvat (as suggested), Myers, and Garland. Then they should trade for Bear if the cost is reasonable (give him an opportunity in a low risk environment).
In year 2 or 3 (assuming year 1 is this year) Brock Boeser is a guy they should consider moving out, depending on what the market for him is like.
