I don't think this is true.
Smith's SPAR in 20-21 was wholly unremarkable.
He only really looked somewhat competent in 20-21 when being glued to Severson and given the most sheltered minutes in the league.

Like I said, jury's still out as it's just been 10 games since the trade.
Ty is a very gifted hockey player no doubt but he has such a limited overall skill-set that I just cannot see a scenario where he'll ever provide close to the same value as Marino ever will.

We all remember how high everyone was on Will Butcher after his rookie season. But, he was also atrocious in his own zone, despite being protected with favorable matchups.

Byron Baders model which has been more accurate than most draft models has him at over an 90% star probability (based on point production) . It's irrelevant what Devils fans think of trading Ty smith, you guys see things through a subjective lens.

In Ty smiths age 20 season (rookie season), he put up 23 points in 48 games (.47 PPG pace) which is right at the cutoff for star production for a defenseman. He was also a solid driver of possession and despite not being great defensively, he did show the ability to suppress shots against. His problem was preventing quality shots against, but the right coaching he has the ability to be good defensively.

Ty smith's sophomore season was a typical development curve for a lot of high upside defenseman. He was awful, but it's normal for a defenseman to go through a sophomore slump. He has the makeup of a 50 pt offensive defenseman who doesn't hurt you defensively. Ryan Merkley is not a comparable, he hasn't been able to produce points in pro hockey like Smith has. Juolevi's career was ruined by injuries which has affected his skating and change of direction.

A good comparable for Ty smith is Sean Durzi.

You're assuming his ceiling is the likely outcome. What's his floor? AHL top pair? His likely outcome is somewhere in the middle (i.e. 3rd pair NHL D w/ 30 points).

My guess is that he'd be the public face of a group of qualified investors. The purchase price should exceed US$650M, especially if there's an expectation of a new arena.

Will butcher was 23. You keep ignoring age to push your narrative.

If he ever did commit it would be a minority owner with Alfie and probably the melnyk sisters suggested on Twitter.

OSEG is likely to have the highest bid if they want to own basically all of Ottawas best areas; future LeBreton, Landesdowne, CFL OHL NHL plus more, and CTC after the Sens move.

The Twitter suggestion and as Brian says would have Reynolds’s as the public face but he can never afford the full purchase. He’s barely a hundred millionaire (I say that the least critical way as possible lmao).

His ceiling is a #2 D. His floor is a #4 D. He’ll likely be somewhere in the middle , a #3 D who can drive a 2nd pair and put up elite point production. I don’t know how you can’t grasp the fact that his production/impact at age 20 in the NHL was impressive - most players who have his impact at that age go on to be successful top 4 D.

Luke Hughes will likely be in the NHL in his age 20 season, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he has one of the worst defensive impacts in the NHL next season considering he’s allergic to playing defense. That doesn’t mean he won’t reach his ceiling.

After 1 year. It's a Win for the Sabres so far. Tuch is even with Eichel. Thompson exploded without Eichel. Skinner is good with Thompson. Dahlin is the star we rely on now and it's working out, Cozens has looked great with more time on ice! Krebs and Ostlund are interesting as well.

It’s going to go down as one of the best win-win trades. Eichel has been playing like a superstar so far. I wouldn’t say Tuch is equal to Eichel, he’s not far behind though.

Kevin Bieksa is exactly the kind of defensive minded, tough RHD who will bring great leadership for the young players. Great signing by Allvin!

He's barely 100m 🤣 I know what you mean but that seems funny.

Also I bet hes got a bit more than 100m. Judging by his earnings + investments.

Ty Smith is 22!!! And he's in the minors!!! I know you're just trolling devils fans. No one who has watched this kid for the last 2+ seasons thinks he's good.
