Dallas hit the jackpot in 2017. That alone makes it crazy.
There are a lot of really good players here though.
Hischier looks amazing this year.
Makar… generational dman.
Pettersson is turning it back around.
Necas is breaking out.
Suzuki is great.
Thomas, Norris, etc…
Hischier has scored more at 5 on 5. He’s one of the best defensive players in the league. He’s also one of the best face off guys while Pettersson is one of the worst. I don’t really think it’s a contest anymore.
Which means at worst, they have been pretty similar this season. Pettersson a bit better offensively, Hischier a bit bigger defensively. Now take into consideration their entire career, Pettersson is over Hischier without question

Pettersson might be better on the powerplay. And that’s it. Hischier is better offensively at 5 on 5, miles better defensively, and can actually take a face off.
I believe 2017 was the year when the Sabres had the 5th worst record and then dropped to 8th because of vegas and the lottery. I guess it didn't matter. I don't trust that they would have picked somebody good at 5, and im pretty sure that necas and Suzuki would have been too much of a reach to reasonably see them reach at 8.

Pettersson has 0 powerplay goals. All his goals are at 5v5. Most of his points are at 5v5. As for facepffs, that is hardly that important in the grand scheme of things. Consider actually learning a bit about pettersson before making false claims
Going into 2017 everyone talked about it being such a weak draft. I think it’s turned out pretty solid. We got a good 10-12 guys as stars already in this league.
Whereas the cohorts before and after, 2016 and 2018, look weaker in retrospect.

Pettersson is much better offensively at 5v5 and he’s also better defensively. Faceoffs don’t matter, Hischier can have that I guess
The funny thing about this draft is that is that Colorado had the worst record and therefore the best chances for the lottery but lost on all 3 draws. By picking 4th overall they ended up with the best player anyways.

Same with the Canucks. Both the Avs and Canucks lost the draft lottery but ended up getting the best players

It’s just kind of crazy how someone could make three statements that are so incorrect.
Hischier is miles better than Pettersson defensively. He’s one of the best in the league. That’s like saying crosby is a better powerplay goal scorer than ovechkin. No, he just isn’t.
Hischier is producing more offensively at 5 on 5. It is what it is.
Face offs are so incredibly important in the modern NHL.

I’ve watched him a ton. Great player. Hischier has more points at even strength. It just is what it is.
