I don't think Laf is worth that, but that's probably the asking price.

Not for that he's not. Credit where credit is due, you at least TRIED to put something reasonable in there, but it falls rather short.

Hughes said he's trying to get a 3rd 1st in 2023 that's why i don't think they'll trade a 1st for laf so I'm trying to come up with a trade that isn't evolving a 1st

If the ask is slightly higher than Dach we should try to make a deal, but I wouldn't be going much farther than that. A '23 1st is probably a requirement and MTL should not and will not be moving either of them.

Laf will be a career 3rd liner, he is worth a 2nd or 2x 2nd, he is not worth a 1st

If you don't want to include a 1st you are going to have to add either Beck or Mesar, personally I would rather give up a 1st with the same conditions as those that we had on the Dvorak trade. That would put the 1st in the 11-16 range with potential to be top 10 if both our and the Cat's pick are top 10. That is what it would take.

Andrew Copp return was a 1st, a 2nd and a 5th. Monahan return should be around the same.

Ylonen was a 2nd. Kidney was a 2nd. Rohrer was a 3rd.

All in all, the proposal would be the equivalent of 1 x 1st, 4 x 2nd, 1 x 3rd and 1 x 5th.

I don't think I've seen a proposal like that for Anderson.

I'm willing to place a wager that Monahan doesn't return half of that. I've seen some pretty large offers for Anderson. And just because you were a 2nd round pick doesn't mean you are worth that today. Ylonen is 23 with 15 NHL games to his name, that's not 35th overall pick value. Remains to be seen for the other two so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

So lets call it a 1st, two 2nd, a 4th (ylonen) and a 5th in value. I have absolutely seen Habs ACGMs valuing Anderson at or higher than that.

"...And just because you were a 2nd round pick doesn't mean you are worth that today..."

Exactly what I was expecting as a response.

Now tell me, would you draft Lafrenière 1st overall with the benefit of hindsight?

The answer is no.

Same logic applies to the others.

As of now, no I wouldn't, but it's a different situation between an always middle tier prospect like Ylonen at age 23 and and a 21 year old, just over 2 years removed from being #1OA, who has been deployed poorly and was somewhat recently regarded as the next generational talent. Not saying that's what he is today but teams would still pony up to have the chance to bring him to his potential. Especially when he's on ELC and they could probably resign him cheap for the next year or two as the ELC expires. And it is early for him, with the right support maybe he figures it out sooner than later

I'm all about MTL trading for Lafreniere. I don't think NYR are selling him for less than what CHI got for Dach.

I could see MTL trading a top 15 pick for Lafreniere like they did for Dach.

NYR would only trade him if they need cap space to sign a big UFA like Kane.

Btw think of Ylonen as a Lehkonen-lite. If we didn't have a logjam at the wings Ylonen would have been in the lineup.

I love how your rationalization for Lafs value is based on the fans feelings about him and not the people who actually matter (the GM and staff) LOL

Why would NYR do that just because value of Laffy is low. That is like selling low. NYR isn't forced to do anything. They can just wait it out. Maybe he be something as 22,23,24 year old... who cares.
I'm not sending him out for scraps and a second. You all where hampering the same way about Nils Lundkvist.

Dach has been in the league a year longer, and going into the draft was not regarded in nearly the same light as Lafreniere. Similar situations, maybe, same, not really.

Also wanted to point out the irony in a Montreal fan saying "well the fans hate him" as an excuse for trying to lowball a hypothetical Lafreniere package, while saying "just because the fans hate it doesn't mean the GMs do" when every other fanbase tells them they don't want to pay a 1st++ for Josh Anderson

That's a lowball offer only if laf is still considered a 1st overall pick which he isn't anymore

The Rangers aren't going to trade a recent #1OA who's still on his ELC for a package that doesn't contain a 1st. Laf has struggled, but if he keeps scoring at his current pace he'll have 32 points this year and will have scored 84 points in his first 3 seasons in the NHL, scoring at a 32 pts/82 GP pace - the exact same pts/gp pace that Kirby Dach had in Chicago when Montreal traded a 1st and a 3rd for him this past summer. I'm gonna guess that you'll have to at least match that package, and not just throw a bunch of lesser assets at the Rangers like you have in this package.
