Shouldn't Horvat be traded to a team that actually needs a centre? Seems like 95% of Horvat trades are to the Leafs. Can't he traded elsewhere?

tbh islanders probably say yes. But it would likely need to come with like 2 mil retention, which i doubt VAN does

I agree Boston might not want/need him. I do think a playoff team should though. He would be great on a 3rd or 4th line on a cup contending team. Just my opinion.

There's just a ton of Horvat traded. Most of them are to teams that don't need centers (Toronto, Boston, Carolina, Tampa)

I feel Toronto still is in need of a 3c. As in the playoffs imagine

Matthews
Tavares
Horvat
Kampf

Then add to the fact Horvat can PK with Marner and is big 4 insurance its not a bad idea

Would probs need a bit of retention to make it work but Horvat is a guy I would explore and if thats the price sure

Horvat for basically Niemela a 1st and a 3rd round pick, Would easily be beaten. There are as many as 7-8 teams after Horvat who have better pieces than Toronto.

I might make that deal one for one if Vancouver retains 1.5 M, but that’s about it. Dude has horrendous metrics, and I wouldn’t be looking to bet against that rn.

I would make this deal without retaining, for sure if we take out the 3rd. I like the theoretical idea of putting Boeser with Lee and Brock. We move out Bailey as well and I get he doesn’t have good metrics but he is like a ppg. Plus there’s all that upside of becoming what he was early in his career.

I might do it without retention if I don’t give up picks. I’d prefer to move bailey for a similarly priced d man like Dillon or Schmidt. Schmidt would probably be a better fit for both sides, but he has a worse contract.

Kampf is the 3C, regardless of what's tweeted out for lines. He soaks up the minutes and has been surprisingly the best of the bottom 6 last year and this year.

The other deal-breaker in a couple of years is Niemela. Quality RD are hard to come by, and having one ready to replace Brodie is going to be pretty important. I don't think the Leafs can afford Horvat long-term, but they certainly afford Niemela during his ELC.

In any ideal scenario Kampf is a 4c. He is very good defensively but gives u little to nothing offensively. Were in a position now where its time to go for it. Niemela could come back to bite us but rn from looking at our Dcore hes expendable. I would easily much rather have O'Rielly or Horvat than Kampf as the 3c. As in the end depth scoring next to good defense and goaltending wins you cups. We saw it with Tampa and Colorado and its something Toronto has struggled with. O'Rielly and Horvat would easily change that narrative

We don’t need Schmidt or Dillon. We need F upgrades and boeser gives us a real and probably our best chance of doing that without moving premium assets. I’m not saying we shouldn’t move premium assets for a star bc I think we should. But at least I get trading for boeser.
