So you gave up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Debrincat with a year left on his deal.. You want two 1st rounders back when he's an RFA with a new contract pending.. interesting.

We are a small market franchise without an owner that has deep pockets.

We also need a new downtown arena that is not on the outer fringes of the suburbs.

Things can go sideways in a hurry.

Detroit declines. The Wings are not a Debrincat away from being competitive, and the cost of 2 1sts (one likely lottery and one potential lottery) is too steep.

I never understand "if DeBrincat doesn't sign for 9m", why do you think any team wants to sign for that price.
Out of playoff teams shouldn't be in a cap crunch but Ottawa is.
