Meier and Merkley for Nylander and Niemela in the Offseason

Created by: CheechYou
Team: 2023-24 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 9, 2023
Published: Jan. 9, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Replace Bedard with Fantilli or Carlsson (or even Bystedt if he's ready) if SJ doesn't get #1 overall.

Could absolutely see a deal like this between SJ/TOR if TOR gets bounced from the 1st again and/or if Timo gives SJ a hard time in his extension negotiations and demands too much money for a long-term contract.

If both are signing for the same amount, Leafs dont make this trade. Much rather have Nylander and Niemela than Meier and Merkley

I know what you meant, but you should have made clear in your Team Explanation that "Anaheim" stood for "Any Team" because the hapless rebuilding Ducks are the LAST team that would be trading draft picks for veteran rentals.

The deal assumes that both players give their teams a hard-time in contract negotiations and both teams are willing/open to making changes. Neither team knows that both will resign for the same amount prior to the trade, that's just a coincidence (and can be amended in this proposal).

No offence here so both teams offer both players the same contract that they both accept but they decline it from their original team then sign it after they are tradedt to each others teams. why would they have a hard time if they are offered the same deal they eventually sign for plus Topi looks better then Merkley rn imo

Why would you want to move Ferraro isn’t that a playwright you want to build with?

I grew up with Merkley, dont want that guy anywhere near Toronto I wouldn't give up anything for him like hes subtraction by addition. Swapping Niemela for him is just dog water. Also the Leafs have been patient with Nylander throughout his whole career, why trade him now that hes finally turned into a borderline star? Nothing against Meier but trading Nylander for him does nothing for Toronto.

I’m saying the trade is ludicrous not agreeing with him

That's too big of a stretch to imagine that those players are signing those contracts from those teams as part of the trade agreement.
Merkley looks likes failed # 1 pick, as he can't seem to catch on with his NHL team. I have more faith in Niemela landing an NHL job...if for the only reason he hasn't failed at one yet.

Lol no, way more of a complete player who brings a heavy tough game. Nylander on the other hand…well I think we’ve all seen the videos of him giving up on pucks in the corners, in the playoffs no less

Yeah yet the guy constantly wins puck battles hardly anyone can knock him off the puck. So soft. What else you got for us facebook boomer?

Didn’t he lead the league in net front goals last year? Maybe 2 years ago? Also just because he’s not “battling” doesn’t mean he’s not winning puck battles. Something Matthews did extremely well was just strip guys of pucks by just simply stick lift and take the puck. Top forwards in takeaways in the NHL. Mark Stone (no surprise there), but the next 3 forwards in Marner 2, Matthews 3 and NYLANDER 4.
