The most controversial trade here will probably be my Jake Walman proposal, but I also think that he could be a really interesting bridge player between Skjei (who's likely to secure massive amounts of coin from some team in 2024 UFA) and Nikishin (who's timed to arrive in 2025).

I think the wings keep wallman and resign him, but if not this is very fair value for him, rather it be the 2023 2nd, but not even close to a deal breaker

Yeah... No team will ever retain 4 mil over 2 extra years on a player. On an expiring contract sure not with 2 more years left. Nashville declines so fast.

Detroit takes that and runs, But it's sounding like 90% chance as of right now that Yzerman resigns Walman. He's been the perfect partner with Mo Seider.

Do you really think that a team would take Johansen for any significant assets otherwise? He's underperformed his contract for years outside of last year.

well san jose kind off did it on burns and the kings did it for carter for 2 years, so it possible. but this is not worth if for nashville to do it though.

Bokk is an interestingly good fit for Detroit: he was drafted by STL (we have a ton of STL players) and is German (would mold with Seider).

Drury is meh. Could we get Gunler instead and drop the 2nd to a 3rd?

Probably one or two more 2nd round caliber prospects, like Gunler or Koivunen, could do it. Nashville needs more youth in their farm.

The pick I have for you guys is Philly's 2024 2nd. That's a premium draft pick almost worth a 1st rounder that you probably don't want to downgrade.

You remember when he was traded to Detroit and Mickey mentioned that Yzerman had been following him since his freshman year at Providence College.

Yes but this is 12 million of retention which is way more than both of those as well as both of those teams weren't playoffs teams. Nashville is (potentially being 3 points out of the WC with 1 game in hand) and the only way I see them make a trade like that is if they implode over the next month AND they see no hope next year. They have a win now team core built, I just cant see them throwing that away.

Yup, That's exactly why i feel that he's going to be a Red Wing for quite some time. He even mentioned that Sunny is everything he was hoping for. If he doesn't get his ask for sunny. It wouldn't shock me if he's not resigned as well.

San Jose was never going to be a playoff team tho and are finally going into a rebuild, Nashville isn't anywhere close to the same situation

Do you consider this to be significant assets though? If I were a GM, $4M of dead cap space for 2.5 seasons isn't worth a 2nd and a mediocre prospect. And it's not like Johansen is a washed up scrub who can't play anymore. Sure he's overpaid at $8M, but he's still a respectable 1B/2A center.

I agree it was a completely different situation. I wasn't commenting on the trade, just the amount of retention.
