The reality is that Josh Anderson would be a horribly overpaid third-line RW on the Devils, behind Jesper Bratt and Dawson Mercer (who has 50% more points than Anderson and is somewhat cheaper, too). As an aside, the fact that you think Alex Holtz has more trade value than Mercer indicates . . . how shall I say this nicely . . . an insufficient appreciation of the New Jersey team, and therefore its need and desire to have Josh Anderson -- which I evaluate at roughly the same: zero.

Here's the rumor we hear in the media here about Josh Anderson:
- Devils were very interested in acquiring Anderson last summer
- Kent Hughes would have recently refused a 1st round pick for Anderson (we don't know from which team)
- Devils name again in the rumor mill with a a strong interest for Anderson

This is why we see all these ACGMs involving Anderson to the Devils as well as speculation about his market value based on what we know.

The reality is that Josh Anderson having value to some GMs doesn’t mean he is worth a blue chip prospect
He is definitely not good enough at hockey, for a team that heavily invests in analytics, like NJ, to move that package for him

PS: Just for everyone to understand, in Montreal for each 3 hours game there is more than 100 hours of media coverage talking about the Habs and the audience is superior to the Weather Channel before a Cat 5 hurricane. Is it possible that some material is exaggerated/amplified to keep the audience excited? Sure, of course. On the other hand the media were not even close to expecting the return we got for Toffoli, Lekhonen, Chiarot and Kulak.

We hear the same about the Devils and this is where the narrative about Anderson to New Jersey starts. We also hear that Anderson is in high demand across the league — I have no idea if this is true but that's what we hear in the media.

The only place I’ve heard Anderson’s name specifically is Montreal based. None of that has come out of NJ. And Anderson isn’t a guy our analytics team would likely approve, unless the in house models differ wildly from what’s publicly available
