Who won the Bo Horvat trade? I think the pick and Raty for aren't bad pieces for Vancouver, especially if Vancouver didn't want to sign Bo for the same amount as Miller. Let me know what you guys think.

Considering a lot of ‘Nucks fans were on this site demanding young C, young RHD + 1st for Horvat…gotta say the Isles won; that’s a pretty underwhelming return imo.
Hopefully it settles down some of the ridiculous asks on this site for the remaining TDL candidates

Neither team.
As a Canucks fan I’m happy Horvat gone but I feel that we could’ve gotten more and do t forget we need defence!!! Not more wingers!! (But still way better than losing him for nothing)
For the islanders if they sign Horvat I feel that they won, but if they don’t… That trade is BAD.

Lou crushed it. I am shocked that this was the best deal on the table, doesn’t seem like a veteran GM was on the Vancouver side.

To me this is like the Hall for Larsson trade, an underwhelming return for excellent player.

First thing i did was search "bo horvat scandal"
A return this low usually only comes after a D'angelo level foot in mouth event.

Raty isnt that good , he was made famous playing Luigi to his big brother on a Championship run in their equivelant to a Junior/Memorial Cup Experience.
After that he's grown into a more lethal Power Play Threat but not a good player outside the offense zone. (think Drouin )

The picks "top 12 protected" which covers NYI but screws VAN as odds are they end up with a 20th -25th OA pick this year. Their only hope is Horvat is a Tomas Tatar in VGK for them dragging down the team but i find that highly unlikely myself. Beauvillier is on a 5 year decline goal scoring wise and make Josh Anderson look like a Pillar for Consistency in the NHL which is saying a lot especially given the cost to re-sign him if thats your desire. Only hope here is Beau plays like Kuzmenko and your GM grows a sack pulling the trigger on him at next years TDL.

I saw this and thought "when did VAN hire Marc Bergavin "
That how low i thought the return was

The whole fate of this pick is going to rely on the Canucks grabbing someone good with it this year, or it being top-5 next year with no protections.

Even if they do next year's draft is weaker
The entire top 5 class of next years draft doesnt even rank top 10 in this years draft skill wise.
It always happens after a few deep drafts there's a stinker or two.

They'd be better off with a late pick this year as 18/20 prospects in the top 20 are forwards.
The 20th - 45th positions are very Defense heavy which is very weird as minmum 4 D have went in the top 20 since 2000 as a rule but usually there's up 4-10/20 picks .
Late 1st or early 2nd could land you a top line Defensman in this years draft is the upside here which is why i think NYI thought at best if Horvat overachieve's winning a cup they still atleast find quality even at the 32nd OA pick

The Gamble for a reward is high but if they lose their worst case scenario is still a win.
Its a boring mediocre deal thats so bland it might as well be called the Volvo of Trade's

Meagre return for a legit top line center in his prime.

This. Raty is mid. Beauvilier is a throwaway.

This is a 1st protected for Bo

This smells like Canucks just wanting to burn it down quickly and tank as well as guarantee Horvat doesnt get hurt!

Canucks could have gotten more but I understand the deal rn for the Canucks. Isles got a good deal but I dont really see the need but I guess it was better than doing nothing for an older team in their competition window.

Makes sense given they're 5th OA as it stands
With ANA ,CHI and SJS having good weeks as far as wins/points
VAN bumped SJS out of 5th OA , ARZ is about to knock ANA out of 3rd OA(if they didnt go to OT they would have) and CBJ just knocked CHI out of 1st OA

CHI, SJS and ANA all have players of high skill level they're shopping who are stealing wins trying to up their value to contenders.
ARZ and CBJ dont have the depth to do much other then rely on next man up which hasnt been going their way.
VAN after Horvat's 4 assists lead them to their 2nd win in 3 games i think realized their timeline to get ahead is the next 15 games or so.
IF they sell early and only win lets say 3 of the next 15 games they'd be right there with CBJ at the bottom of the league battling for 1st OA.

For VAN i think its just as much about Michkov as it is Bedard as like NJD, MIN ,WSH and a few others they've been taking advantage while most teams steer away from Russians.
Whether they land Bedard , Michkov or even Fantilli or Carlsson to a lesser degree they're still winners even taking a loss on Horvat.
Past those 4 picks though the quality slide's down from Future All Stars and Gold Medalist's almost guaranteed to High odds of it but could just be solid Middle 6 players with top line upside.

Good call i never thought about that angle
I was just so confused on why they took less and didnt even take a top prospect from NYI.
Aatu isnt even the best Raty let alone a top prospect , his brother is as he's not defined by Power Play Production
It reminds me so much of the Kostitsyn's where both were good but one needed Power Play and Kovalev to produce.
The other didnt need anyone and was as productive on Power Play as he was Dominant on Penalty Kill while being a 5v5 checking force.
Neither were guys you'd consider all stars just really good middle 6 options or bottom 6 depending on the teams depth level's .

Aatu will do fine but the minute someone gets that contract away from ARZ his brother will agree to come over to the USA to develop. As it stands he's a 4th year Pro and as of this June 1st 2023 he'll be a UFA able to choose the club he wants to join going forward. He was smart waiting as he's 21st in league scoring on the 2nd best team in the league where both his top 6 Centers ,their top line RW and top D join him in the top 20(ish in Raty case). He's pushed himself to be better even leaving the system he'd spent his entire youth developing in for more minute's and a bigger role on a less historic team (essentially leaving the Detroit Redwings for the Tampa Bay Lightnight circa 2003)

While Aatu just polish's the skills that paid the bills up until his Draft.
Aku is more focused on become a top overall player with a high compete level and heart with a willingness to sacrifice his body that Aatu simply doesnt possess

Difference between getting the first round pick of a non playoff team (15 overall), and getting a first round pick of a contender (30 overall). It is a huge difference. Bigger than you would expect. You could sub the mid first round pick for basically 2 late first round picks as that is what it would take to move up 15 spots in this draft

I love Horvat, but it is clear as day that he is having an outlier year he will never repeat again. He isn't a consistent 50 goal, 90 point player. He is more of a 30 goal, 60 point scorer.
