It looks a lot better and Skinner is practically untouchable for the Sabres right now anyways

Skinner for Boeser would be the ez-e-zy-est yes for BUFF

Apparently Hughes turned down a 1st round pick so I’m guessing they probably want a 1st, good prospect and 0 retention involved. Doesn’t seem like they’re desperate to move him

It would be the eazy-e-est no of all time. Skinner is the one who unlocked Thompsons talent. Their chemistry is incredible. Buffalo has the cap to deal with it for a long time. And Boeser? He is not worth anything. He'll probably get to 20 goals and 50 points this season but has a terrible contract and is awful defensively. Ask any Buffalo fan.

Jeff is on pace for 87 points after putting up 33 goals and 30 assista last year.

Take away Krueger actively sabotaging his career and its a 1.5 million overpay.

He got that contract as a pending ufa after a 40 goal season and with 3 additional 30 goal and 3 20 goal seasons.

Anderson got his contract after a 1 goal season and has been about a 35 point player his whole career

skinner has played 0 playoff games.

    Skinner contract is worse

Jeff Skinner has more 20-goal seasons in the last 2 seasons than "goal scorer" Josh Anderson has in his entire career. Skinner's deal probably winds up underwater to date because the first 2 years were so brutal, but I think with hindsight you can put that more on a coach who wanted Skinner to be a player that he isn't instead of playing to his strengths. If he keeps it up as 30-35 goal scorer for the next couple years, I think Buffalo ends up happy with the deal.

Anderson's only 2 years younger than Skinner with the same amount of term left, and his biggest draw besides goal scoring is his physicality - something that ages so notoriously well, no? I think I'd rather have the remaining 4x$9M on Skinner's deal than the 4x$5.5M on Anderson's at this point.

As far as the original point of this post? I think Montreal wants more than teams are going to be willing to pay. They have zero need to move Anderson at this point, so I get it - put a big number on him and move him if someone's crazy enough to meet it.

I really doubt Hughes turned down a 1st or even got a 1st (reported by a Habs fan insider in LeBrun). It's just Hughes working the media and trying to bring his price up. A 1st in a deep draft, that in itself has value

True or not, a 1st+ is the value asked. If Hugues was to accept less, Lebrun would look like a fool and never deal with him again.

Also, this year's draft isn't that deep. The top 15 is very good but then goes meh.

Finally, you just assumed the 1st offered was a 2023 but there's no report about that. It could as well be a 2024.

“What is Josh Anderson good at? Can’t play defence , can’t get to 50pts . For 5.5 mill I’d want 55-65pts for it to be a good contract.”

Habs fans: “We’ll he’s a goal scorer, that’s what they pay him to do”

    ** checks stats **
    Barely a 20 goal scorer .

They paid mangiapane similar money and less term after a 35 goal season Lmao

For some reason many GMs are still turned on by size and that can be seen on trade market and draft floors. Why are the Rangers playing -and re-signing- Hurpur over Zac Jones who's torching the AHL? Why are small guys like Caufield, DeBrincat and Hutson are continuously dropping down draft boards?
I'd say Anderson is a good complementary player who's gonna go where it hurts and isn't afraid to drop 'em, I'd say he's comparable to Greenway but he's scoring at double his pace over their respective careers. Is it a good investments, eh, but GMs love size and cap is expected to go up by a margin next year so one of them might bite.

Everyone forget this bit, if Hugues was offered a top 15 protected 1st in 2025 I understand why he brushed it off.

I would steer clear. One of the worst contracts in the league

    https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/insider-trading-what-kind-of-offer-would-the-habs-need-to-trade-anderson-1.1914549

The Montreal Canadiens are sellers but they don’t appear to be in full rebuild mode so what does that mean when they’re taking calls about forward Josh Anderson?

Darren Dreger: Let’s talk about a player who is not in play and the player is in fact Josh Anderson. As we all know, the Canadiens often get calls on Anderson because he’s a unique player in the NHL. He’s that prototypical power-forward.

So, could he be in play?

The only way he gets on the trade block is if a team persuades [Canadiens general manager] Kent Hughes and makes an offer that they simply can’t refuse. We know historically that [Calgary Flames general manager] Brad Treliving has expressed interest in Anderson. Montreal prefers to keep him because he’s got a good long-term contract but this far out from the March 3 trade deadline, anything is possible.

If Montreal wants quality for Anderson, the Canes will bow out quickly. We are looking for a Trocheck esque trade.

His defense is a concern but the Canes own the puck so, his defensive issues would be a little more masked
The appeals for the Canes are his physical side and he is a shoot first guy (we dont have one).

Honestly with our depth, Anderson can play a bunch of PP time and we can put him one the 1st line on O zone / neutral zones. We could throw in Jarvis for defensive draws.

I see this comment a lot and it is actually quite ridiculous, lets look at his CF, OzS% and DzS%

Anderson - CF 45.3 not great but then look at OzS 46.2% and DzS 53.8%

The Canes do not currently have a top 6 forward who starts more in the defensive zone then they do in the offensive zone. In fact all 4 top 6 wingers the Canes have start more than 60% of the time in the offensive zone and on a much better team. If Josh was almost exclusively deployed in the offensive zone his stats would be much higher and there wouldn't even be a debate on the value of his contract. To be putting up 20+ goals a year on one of the worst offensive teams in the league while also starting more than 50% of the time in your own zone is quite a feat in itself.

Interestingly enough - Lebrun might be the most connected member of the mainstream ‘insiders’ to Carolina. He also has reported that the Habs aren’t really ‘motivated’ to move Anderson (take that for what it is).

I think everyone is just in love with the idea of the ‘Power Forward’ type. I’m just not convinced that is what the Canes really need. I don’t see them trading a ton for a 20 goal scorer regardless if he’s 6’5” 240 lbs or 5’9” 170 lbs.

The Canes have 20 goal scorers aplenty…there is a reason they wanted Patches and have been liked to Meier. They need a 30 goal or 40 goal pace guy. Everything else is just redundancy.

Leafs fans have every reason to. Mitch Marner has every right to be paid what he is, but that whole situation was fueled by Dreger (And Paul Marner).

    Cool.

Anderson has played 43... and has just 8 goals and 6 assists to show for it.

He's got to be the most overrated player in the league.
