Changing my tune again

Description
I'm over the need on Defense popular or not I'm not sure but I know I'm fine with Holl, if the depth chart goes Reilly, Brodie, Liligren, Holl, Sandin, Gio and whoever then I'm fine. Leafs have clearly been a top defensive team this year, maybe all they really need is a top 6 or 7th or 8th forward, because the bottom 2 lines are so suspect.
My biggest want is Bertuzzi I don't care about his production so far this year but my second biggest want is Domi clearly from all my post. So that's where I'm at right now kampf or Holmberg with Domi and jankrok on the wing or Domi centering Holmberg and jarnkrok and Bertuzzi with Tavares and Nylander. I'm talking playoffs I know the team is definitely great in season but bulking up to take on the big fish in the post season I'd like 2 more weapons since the opponents have more options outside the first 2 lines spread across the lineup, 2 legit powerplay units would be great for the Leafs. Bertuzzi and Domi will boost this lineup big time, let's go!

Get rid of our best bottom 6 player for an injury prone Tyler Bertuzzi ? Not to mention we don't need anymore problems in the locker room.

Too heavy on the Bertuzzi package and too light on the Domi deal.

Bertuzzi's value is tough to assess because he's missed a ton of time this year and been kind of mediocre when he's been on the ice. Trading for him is a pure upside play, and I don't think you overpay for that type of move. I wouldn't offer much more than a 3rd & a B-tier prospect for him at full freight; if Detroit thinks it's not enough, well then let them figure out what they're gonna do with a pending UFA that's seen their trade value tank this year.

Domi, even without retention, would get better than this. It's a 3rd rounder, a 26-year-old AHL/NHL tweener, and a pending UFA in Kerfoot that would have minimal value for Chicago. I think you have to start the conversation at a 2nd and a good prospect for Chicago to get on the phone here - I personally have questions about his value, but he's scoring at a 60 point pace on a team with very little talent so Chicago has every right to push for a strong return there.

Thank you second time I forgot amirov is going through cancer treatment so I switched that trade up.

The assessment of Domi requiring a second and a prospect or maybe a young guy that can play right away I definitely agree with, Ottawa's 3rd is pretty close to a second I seen acgm's offering 4th-7th rounds so I beat them but I'd give that up for Domi no question.

I know I'm probably in the minority here...but I'd rather have Kerfoot over Domi. I don't think many leaf fans have been watching Max the past few years and are going off of memories of what he was supposed to be.

In the past two seasons, one player has 21 blocks and 35 hits while the other has 93 blocks and 105 hits. The one with the higher "grit" stats is logging 4min less ice time per game. That player is also currently on the leafs roster.

Yes, Domi plays the agitator role and is producing better this year playing on the top line...but unless coming to Toronto turns him into his father's playing profile, I wouldn't be giving up anything of quality to get him

If you wanted the Domi trade to happen with Chicago taking Kerfoot back, it would probably have to look like:

Chicago:
Max Domi

Toronto:
Alex Kerfoot
Nick Abruzzese (Apparently Chicago is very high on this guy)
2023 3rd round pick (OTT)
2024 5th round pick (TOR)

I think if you offered that it could get done.

He's a UFA, extremely injury prone, and producing .33 points a game, if a 1st rounder is offered Stevie Y takes it and runs

The thing about Kerfoot is while those defensive numbers are higher than Domi's because of his pk role, he's arguably the 4th best pker on the Leafs (behind Kampf, Marner, and Aston-Reese, and in my opinion only marginally above Jarkrok). Domi is more effective in the offensive zone, and as you said getting under the other teams skin (which is an important trait to have in the playoffs).

What does it most for me is the center option. Right now when Matthews was out Kerfoot could not play up in the lineup to cover the position well, but Domi has a track record of being both a good winger and center.

Domi also has a track record of being relatively useless, production wise...especially in a bottom 6 role. Bottom line is that I don't think swapping him for Kerfoot +++ is logical given it's debatable he'll have a bigger impact than kerfoot in a similar role.

And if Matthews or Tavares go down and we need a C to fill in that role, we're likely on our way out of the 1st round anyway as Domi playing 2C isn't very inspiring.

I'd take Domi...just not for anywhere near that ask

I agree with some of your points. First of all I wouldn't have him in a bottom 6 role, but rather in the top 6 playing on the LW (I wouldn't do that Bertuzzi trade ever).

And I agree if Matthew or Tavares go down in the playoffs the Leafs are in trouble, I mean more for the regular season to make sure we keep home ice advantage on Tampa.

I personally would do that trade, but I understand your reasoning for not.

My thing is that Domi would move into the top 6 when needed a lot better than kerfoot, I noticed his drop on the back 6 but I still think he's more valuable and lastly he's a Domi.

That's how I see it too....Leafs not getting guys they truly need is the true nature of the team so will they actually get him I'm really not sure but I think he's perfect for the team

Exactly but I also think if a second is offered he throws it out so who knows... probably makes sense that he stays in Detroit and signs a one year deal at $5M I understand that argument but as I think about it why wouldn't a team offer him 3 years at 6 or $7M still and would he take that? I'm sure he'll still test the market so in that case a Leafs move could definitely happen..
