Hawks would be delighted to get a first for Toews.

I would even send a third rounder back next year to ensure it happens

Sharks are seeking futures. Lehk is a good player for a contender.

Timo is a 30 goal scorer so far. He's on pace for 47.

I guess in the thought process of flipping Lehkonen, making that kind of a 3 way deal?

Agreed. I think there really only two teams that have the depth to construct a deal that gives the Sharks value...... the Kings, (and I don't think they do that given what is already there but habe the goods) and the Devils, who have depth at every position.

For any other NHL team, it would be like firing nerf bullets in a Western gun fight.

Devils and Canes are the reported front runners. Both have deep prospect pools. Both are contenders. Avs only need to add depth pieces to construct a proper run. Because it would take Newhook, Olausson + and the avs need as many ELCs as they can get in the near future

Avs can't afford another star player. They need guys like Lehkonen and Nichushkin (i.e. guys that are very good but also affordable) to fill out the roster.

In a world with no cap concerns, of course you take Timo over Lehkonen. But that just isn't reality.

I like the Toews acquisition, but I'm not sure how to make the deal work for both sides. Ideally the Avs don't give up a first or at least get something else back.

CHI would be very happy getting a 1st for Toews. And if COL is paying that much, I'm sure CHI could find a few ways to increase the value COL is getting. Maybe paying for third party retention and/or taking on an unwanted contract.

Meier with the Canes would be crazy, but I just don't think they have to goods to compete with the Devils.

I would have to think a Canes package would be 1 2023 1st, Morrow, Drury. The Devils can counter with a 2023 1st, Holtz, Foote, Stillmam or and NHL playing Zetterlund and pick a defenseman (Bahl, Walsh, Mukhanadullin, Oktoiyuk, and if crazy Nemec).

In no way is Toews worth a first any more but someone might do on his past glories. I hope it isn't the Avs.

Meier is simply unaffordable to trade for and to re-sign.

If they offered Morrow thats really hard to say no to. Depends on what Grier is after. If he moves Karlsson he'll want an RHD. But really I think Grier is just looking for the best package.

Sharks owner wants this rebuild to last 2 maybe 3 years before contending again. For the Sharks to be financially successful they have to contend. The fan base just falls apart when losing. So a package like Holtz, Walsh, Zetterlund and 1st makes sense for the timeline. Holtz, Eklund and Bordeleau likely make the team next year and one of William Smith, Leo Carlsson, or Zach Benson is only a year or two away.

Let us dream for Adam Fantilli. I honestly believe if Grier got #1 overall he would draft Fantilli.

Getting a top 6 player with term on a cheap contract, a 2023 1st, and two prospects for a guy with a $10M qualifying offer.

Avs can’t afford Meier and certainly wouldn’t want to part with Lehkonen. Great player though.

Yeah I doubt your getting a first for Teows. This wasn't about flipping equal value. Was just seeing how the Colorado lineup would look. I figure both first for Colorado are going bye bye so It doesn't matter if I flip 2 1sts to Timo or some other picks. This was more about seeing how to put Timo in the lineup. I figure Colorado has to give up a Arturri for a 50 goal player. Arturri is Playoff gold but Colorado has a really short window with the NHL going to have major Money issues for the next 5 years. Baily Sports going Bankrupt will kill the cap moving up. So it's win now and don't worry about the next 5 years. Factor that into you calculations. Remember with Baily oweing 55 Billion to the midwest teams they will be selling cheap . LA has a big Billion dollar issue coming up. Time to win or give up and rebuild for colorado.

Very rarely are guys acquired to maybe be flipped later for the unknown and not guaranteed assets. And if they are acquiring Lehkonen they may as well keep the much better winger in Timo. The late 1st and maybe C level prospects aren’t enticing enough to consider that. Honesty Colorado can’t get Meier unless they are giving up Byram or Newhook and honestly not sure I want the small injury prone defenseman.

The Byram comment feels like bait lol.

Nobody will argue with you that if you say Meier > Lehkonen. But Meier’s QO is $10M. Most teams can’t afford to add a $10M player in today’s cap world, especially not a team like Colorado who already will have 3 $9M+ players next year.

Lehkonen is making $4.5M through 2026-2027 and playing a top 6 role. That’s the type of contract you need to offset MacKinnon at $12.6M. The Avs can’t do this trade just due to the reality of the salary cap. Adding on a 1st just solidifies that.

Well thanks for stating the obvious, as I am well aware of the rarity of acquiring to flip.... my sarcasm doesn't translate well over tex and print.

And I doubt the Avs are moving Byram or Newhook for.some rather obvious reasons.
