Columbus accepts. Ottawa does not. Montreal trade is interesting, because I don't see them buying anyone (especially not with their second) but they are in need of an offensive RD.

It is not interesting. Habs have enough small body defenders and basically between Savard, Barron, Kovacevic, and Mailloux - Habs are all set. Though we would gladly trade for Corson Ceulemans!

Why would Montreal do that? Are you sending a 2nd with Barrie or you're expecting to clear cap space and get paid for it?

Barrie has surplus value to his contract, it's not a cap dump

It's a cap dump when you need to clear the cap to make other moves and other teams need incentive to take on that cap hit, espeically when the receiving team is a bottom five team in the league. Covid and the cap not rising changed things.

Yes I would assume MTL makes a deal that is tied to this, but it wouldn't be impossible

OP might be late on the news but Ottawa can't take on dumps anymore (not that they did during the rebuild), they will be very tight to the cap next year

I'm asking one more time: why would Montreal do that?

Habs don't need a player like Barrie, so if the only place you can send him is Montreal it's then a cap dump. I don't care what's his value.

So what about Savard, Baron, Kovacevic? We send them eat hot dogs? How about Mailloux next year?

In short: we don't need Barrie. If we ever get Barrie it's only because you need to get rid of a contract and in that case we would pay for him, you would.
