1st line identity
2nd line scoring
3rd line shutdown

Bruins prefer to keep Fred. However, given the cap circumstance with the Bruins in the off-season, you may be able to trade for his RFA rights. Plus, he's from St. Louis.

Frederic isn’t stuck anywhere. He’s playing on the same line as Coyle. He’s blocked from a top 9 C role. But that does not block his PT.

Tuomisto seemed on the out in the Detroit prospect system when he went back to Finland but considering the lack of depth on the right and his play lately I think they probably hold him and hope for the best. His selling price would be so low it's probably just better to gamble that he's just slow developing.

It does in the sense that he should probably get the role - this is the burden of being so damn good.

Most people don't consider that most NHLers retire by 35. Frederic is 25 - his next 2 contracts will be the majority of his career earnings. From the players perspective, he will want the role he has earned as that raises the number of dollars he gets by alot. A high quality shutdown 3C is worth 4.5-6 mil aav over term. A 2-way winger maybe 2-4.5. A 4th line winger 1.5.

I enjoy watching him - would be thrilled if he was a sort of core piece on the defensive side of the Blues forward group. But after seeing what the Lightning did with Jeannot, Frederic may be too costly.

Except that’s not who he is. He’s not a shut down defender by any stretch.

There is a distinct possibility he ends up as 2nd line LW with with Pasta/Zacha next year depending on how things play out. 3C is also an option if both Bergy and DK retire and they are unable to add a C.

I have watched quite a bit of him - he is behind the play quite often. I do not mean he is fully 2-way and always defensive - I def worded that wrong. He is just good at it - good on the forecheck, good in the neutral zone, physical, but then he is solid offensively too: good netfront - good hand-eye on tips/netfront plays,

He reminds me of David Backes.

And if not Buffalo gets a compensatory 2nd, which is cool. He was the 31st pick so he was basically a 2nd rounder anyway (obviously not but anyway). Prob best he signs there, atleast not a total loss if he doesn't as they'd get the 2nd.

But yeah I would not be shocked if he signed with Buffalo. Just incase he isn't - I'd like the Blues to pay the fair price for his rights assuming there is indication he would sign.

Due to that, I am assuming he costs more than a 2nd rounder. How about a late first rounder instead?

He signs with Buf
or
He doesnt and Buf gets a 2nd rounder
or
He indicates he wont sign so Buf trades him for a late 1st.

I'd pay that price if it came to it.

Forgot about the Hronek trade frown You guys are a little lighter on that position's depth now.

Best of luck!

Try making a 23/24 roster with the big $$$ increases for Thomas and Kyrou.

It isn't as fun as it sounds. I'm holding off because if a higher value skater is moved during the offseason it changes what is possible by so much.

Fortunately there is a ton of flexibility the next 2 years as far as churn. 13 roster skaters - safe to say a large chunk are no longer Blues in 2 years, and between Hofer, Bolduc, Dean, Neighbors, Alexandrov, this years first possibly and Snuggerud in 2 years, there are a lot of ELCs
