If Kyle Davidson's plan is to build strictly through drafting and development, I could see him accepting that as payment for a Campbell cap dump. But all of the cap dumps he has taken on, so far, have only been through the 23-24 season. Which leads me to believe he doesn't want to take on long term cap dumps and is probably planning on using our cap space to dip into free agency over the next few summers. If that is the case, I don't think he would want to take on such a big contract with that much term.
I think a lot of that hinges on whether CHI gets the 1st overall pick in the 2023 draft. If CHI does get Bedard, they will probably want to speed things up a bit and bring in talent around him right away and also leave cap space to give him a big payday in 3 years when his ELC is up. If they don't get him they will probably continue tanking one or two more seasons and have the flexibility to take on some more cap dumps. Regardless, I think that is in the ballpark of a fair price for dumping that Campbell contract. So, we'll just have to wait and see.
