New GM big moves

Created by: pensfan21
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 1, 2023
Published: Apr. 1, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Offseason priorities (in order of importance)

- Fire Hextall and Burke
- Get rid of bad contracts
- Retool defense (I'm throwing a ton of money at defense here, we need it)
- Get solid, reliable goaltending tandem
- Upgrade bottom 6
- Add more speed, grit, youth anywhere we can in lineup
- For ownership or new GM: sit down with Sully and have him adjust his system. It's fine to have a speed component, but need to lock down and play D sometimes. A defensemen like Ruhwedle shouldn't be activating with 2 min left in a close game

Additional Details:
What team would be interested in this trade? I think this could potentially be fair
2.
PIT
Yes I know many Detroit fans don't like this and will say there's no interest. I don't think he'd be your first choice. But for 4 mil only for 2 years it could work as a backup. I don't think he's bad, but he doesn't fit the Penguins system at all. Would be reliable on blue line for less price and not a ton of term.

At that price the Petry trade isn't that bad but I think we would explore other options first

I can’t see the penguins being interested in the caps trade because I’m all over that lmao.

At least you're being reasonable about his value. I still don't see a fit in Detroit, but I applaud you for acknowledging that's he's a negative asset at this stage in his career.

Unlike most of the Petry offers on here, if this one went through, I could at least stomach it from a Detroit perspective.

Business is business haha. If there's a good trade to be made I say we do it, rivals or not

Same. We accept. And I would probably if we had the space to retain on mantha to make it more even

Yeah if they sell petry for that Detroit for sure takes him. That won't ever be the deal though.

I'd try to sign Severson in UFA first.

I think upgrading the 3rd to a 2nd makes Petry more palatable. Detroit can get a better D via UFA, but I think tbe term for someone like Severson might be longer than Detroit wants to commit to a stop gap RD. A 3RD to take on a bad cap isn't a lot for 2 seasons.

Yzerman gets petry cheap with a pick or pays more for severson in free agency, you know what he's gonna do.

Load up on vets to try and make the playoffs and leave the kids in Grand Rapids.

I'll take Rust over Mantha every day to be honest. It's crazy that the best option for the guy we just traded for is to buy him out haha - Hextall masterclass I guess.

I like the team overall though - good signings. But we got that big elephant in the room named Jeff to worry about too
