The first trade has some semblance in reality - Scheif with full retention should bring back a 1st & a strong prospect; maybe the 3rd piece isn't a 2nd, but that's splitting hairs.
The Pittsburgh trade isn't necessarily good for the Penguins but I see the logic - Winnipeg eats some of Nino's deal to get back surplus value on what they traded for him, gets Granlund to fill Scheifele's lineup spot, and gets a goalie. I think Pittsburgh would pass though, because spending a 2nd to get Granlund and then a 1st to ship him out and get Nino back is just awful asset management.
Beyond that, though, woof.
-The Kings aren't adding that much to a Doughty-for-Morrissey trade, if that concept even made it past both players' NMCs. In reality this is closer to a one-for-one deal with LA either doing a little retention or taking some bad cap back; adding Kupari/Roy/picks to offset Petersen's deal is something that I can't see Rob Blake even considering. Too much value for the sake of losing cap that they don't necessarily have to lose.
-The Islanders wouldn't do this deal - they already have Ryan Pulock and Noah Dobson on the right side, so as good as Doughty is, why are they going to spend assets to add to a position that they don't need more top end talent at? And what "win now" value does Mason Appleton bring to the table? And, again, is Drew Doughty waiving his NMC a second time to go to the Island?
-God, can we give PLD to MTL trades a break? No reason for the Habs to give up a young asset for a guy that has expressed a desire to sign there in 2024; no reason for the Jets to settle for a lesser package by limiting themselves to just Montreal if they want to move PLD.
-Two 1sts, a likely high 2nd rounder, AND a young goalie with both affordable term and success at the NHL level for one year of Connor Hellebuyck? This is one of the most egregious overpays I've seen around these parts - can you name me one goalie trade in the cap era that looked *anything* like this?
-I doubt Mete gets tendered, just sign him in July if you want him so bad - paying a 3rd for the rights to a 6th/7th D is just silly.
-Dylan DeMelo might not be a star but he's clearly worth more than a pair of depth forwards, an overpaid bottom pair D, and a pair of mid/late-rounders. I'd think he brings back a 2nd and an okay prospect in a trade, if you're moving him out.
-Terrible deal for Winnipeg. You have no need to move Ehlers, so why are you adding to him to get Yamamoto? Sure, Edmonton might not want to move him, but when the return is a perennial 70 point guy like Nik Ehlers, I think they'll find the motivation. Oilers would add something significant to this package, and the Jets don't add a pick to Ehlers.
-Just don't tender Stanley. I can't see anyone really giving up anything of value for him - he gets no ice time and has demanded a trade, so at this point why not just non-tender him and let him pick where he goes? The best I could see is a team throwing you a 7th rounder to take a chance at signing him.
