Pass. Keeping Laf at 3.5M or less and the 1st. Rebuild with someone outside the metro 😉

Jeff Carter for Torey Krug is certainly a choice.

This is definitely something. Not just how realistic these are and am not a fan of a lot of them, but respect the creativity. Rangers trade is intriguing even though I'm not sure they accept

NY trade is interesting. Very interesting.

Rutta does not fetch a 3rd

I don't see that Buffalo trade working. It's an overpay for Oloffson but then you include Granlund and Buff would pass, even with an overpay.

Van will want more. You'd have to include an A- / B+ prospect and another, lesser, pick.

Rangers pass. Laffy is staying where he is and definitely worth more than 1 year of any player.

I don't get th Guentzel trade. Laf isn't close to being on Jake's level yet and if he gets there it will be well after the core is done so why bother?

Laf may not be on guentzels level yet
50 ES points vs 36 ES points
But Laf has the ability to grow, and is team controlled for another 4 years minimum. Guenztel is a UFA next season, will be 3m (with that retained).

    Just to also clarify.
at age 23 - Guentzel had 36 even strength points in 16:29
at age 21 - laf had 35 even strength points in 15:13

Sorry a 1:1 trade is at least interesting here, but not also getting our first (additionally that first is locked, and likely going to the blackhawks if we win in the first round).

The point is we aren't in a wait for him to grow mode. It's win now for the core then full tear down and rebuild. Jake has 34 playoff goals in 58 games. He is a very proven scorer, Sid's main winger, and one of the core pieces. Trading him isn't worth it.

We dont need him to grow. We've got panarin and kreider on the left side still.

The point of the core we currently have is that its balanced heavily between guys in their young 30's and guys in their young 20's.
By the time panarin is really struggling, his contract should be done, and laf should be fully ready to take his spot.
    Chytil is mika's potential replacement
Kakko is actually the only one who doesn't have a vet blocking him.
We've got Schneider who can step in for trouba.

The core isn't going to need a rebuild, the core will continue to hum along so long as we don't make short sighted moves.

I'm talking from a Penguins perspective. Crosby, Malkin, Letang are at the end and having win now players is more important than having guys who will develop into something down the road.

Thats great. But trades happen because both teams think they're getting approximate value. 1 year of guentzel for 5 years of Laf is not value, Additionally moving down from the first round, to the 2nd in one of the deepest drafts ever is not value.
We didn't sell the farm to try to win this season. Otherwise we would've went after Meier.
