Canucks aren’t paying to take on Johansen’s contract

Montreal trade is okay I guess

Definite no on the Philly trade

No reason to just give away Garland

Too much money for Bear and Holl

As a Habs fan, I think this makes some sense but at the same time doesn't. It makes sense because both teams are filling holes with expiring bad contracts. It doesn't work cause the Habs are (or should be) looking to give the kids more playing time.

Canucks basically get worse, and gain hardly any cap space out of it?

Oh they'd love Beauvillier, but that's not enough to get him I'm afraid

Thank every god that ever existed that you're not the GM, I would give up on this team if they made a single one of these stupid moves...

Hawks probably accept but why Vancouver would literally give Garland away is beyond me.

That is an extra 2.15M going to the Habs for a bunch of scrubs. Neither do the Habs when the Canucks cant even stay below the cap. No team helps them out like this unless they get a young asset.

Exactly they play Roy, Heineman, Ylonen, Farrell over Beauvilier.

The Habs wings are full. Hoffman/Eddy for Myers is fine. Take away Beauvilier.

Its also a lot of extra cap for Montreal to take on with no real benefit except for the handedness of the D-man. Its much easier to just play Edmundson on his off-side for a season than make this trade. And while the Habs have money, I doubt they love the idea of paying Myers bonus considering its payable September 1st, not July 1st.

My only justification is I think they'd like beauvillier, it's only 2m and he could be apart of they're core moving forward, would probably just buyout Myers, it's not like they don't have the money

I can't see any teams taking on bad contracts rn without high draft pick compensation and I'd rather dump garland then pay draft picks to dump poolman. I think Vancouver has some good young wingers and garland gets in the way of them getting minutes. Either way I don't think Vancouver going to be good next year so might as well shed the salary

There's some merit to the Habs trade. MTL would take on $2.15m in salary, but only for a year while getting rid of Hoffman's extra year. Beauvillier is a piece Hughes would probably be interested in, and having a one-year ticket to see how he could fit on the team is interesting.

Not sure how Myers would fit in a defense with Matheson, Guhle, Harris, Barron, Xhekaj, Kovacevic and Savard though. Assuming everyone stays healthy, I guess we could carry 8 defensemen and come up with somekind of rotation, I don't know. At least, Myers would bring experience, size and is a RHD, so there's that going for him...and at this point, he might have more value than Edmundson if we intend to flip him at the deadline with retention.

Not overly enthousiastic with the offer, but I'm willing to talk it out if I'm in Hughes' shoes.

If they buy out Myers then they get beauvillier for 2.15m instead of picks, seems like something I'd be interested in if I'm the habs

Even if they liked Beauvillier (and that feels more like a "hey, he's French Canadian" idea more than an actual fit, since Montreal has guys to play LW and are rebuilding), its still a close to straight swap for Montreal since both he and Hoffman are UFAs at the end of next season. There's just no gain for Montreal here and a straight loss in both cap and real salary.

I still can't see Vancouver doing this, but can't see any reason Hawks wouldn't take this deal. Garland is still good (but probably overpaid) player. Hawks could use in top 6 for sure. Poolman can just sit on IR. If he is cleared to play, Hawks can just waive him.

Beauvillier being French Canadian was a big factor but also he can play both wings, top 6 or top 9, I think he can fit just about anywhere. I think he'd be good to play for some of those young guys they have coming up, and if he isn't a good fit he's not a hard contract to get rid of. Similar to the Monahan situation I guess is my thinking

That's literally what Hoffman is.

Montreal got a 1st round pick to take Monahan's contract for a year, if Vancouver is willing to do that then its another story.

Again, there's no real reason Montreal would consider this.

I think hes a better fit, a slightly better overall player, and significantly younger than Hoffman and entering his prime years. Multiple reasons to consider Beauvillier

I think Beavillier and Hoffman fit about the same, the difference between the two players is not significant, and age is irrelevant when you don't intend to re-sign either. Its not going to convince Montreal to swap Edmundson for Myers.

Just take the Montreal trade out and swap Edmundson for Myers with retention in the Flyers trade.

Average TOI for "the kids"
Xhekaj: 15:16
Guhle: 20:31
Harris: 18:39
Barron: 16:18
Dach: 18:30
Caufield: 18:03

What do you mean by giving them more ice-time?
