After the stunts that JGP has pulled in this series, I have a hard time seeing him being welcomed here with open arms. As for Sorokin, love him, but he gets beat high way too easily. Besides, Nikishin’s potential is way too high to move unless he refuses to sign. Canes will likely target Varly though.

Could get much more for sorokin. He’s arguably the best goalie in hockey

The Oilers get 2 overpaid with term players that play positions of no need from the Islanders, and send back 1 overpaid player with the equivalent of three 1st's and one 2nd round pick. That seems fair to you?

Sure it would be good for 1 year, but with how many core players the Canes need to sign, it doesn’t make sense for the Canes to pay Sorokin the 6+ mil he will be demanding. Besides, Koochie is likely to be as good if not better than Sorokin probably in 2-3 years, and the Canes have Perets knocking on the door right after Koochie. It doesn’t make sense to move Nikishin, who is looking like he might be another Slavin but with more offense, for 1 year of Sorokin.

Don’t get me wrong here, he probably wins the Vezina with the Canes, but losing a potential cornerstone piece for a goalie who likely doesn’t stick around after the year doesn’t seem like smart asset management. And if the Canes don’t win the cup that year, the trade hurts them even more.

He's not even the best goalie in his division.

With the 3 mil retention the Avs might consider this.

You can not like the deal and say they play position EDM doesn't need, but to call Pelech overpaid is an egregiously ill-informed statement. The guy is among the best (if not THE bes) shutdown Dmen in the league and has been for a while.

Not even close. Although Pelech isn't overpaid.

Ross Johnston makes *$1 million* with 2 years left, so he’s overpaid by what, $225,000? Pelech is underpaid if anything, and this trade helps the oilers get out of the terrible Campbell signing who has like 5 years left at $5 mil cap hit. This should be a no brainer

Good luck re attaching your ‘a’

The Canes wouldn’t trade two very good prospects (one of which they consider their top prospect) and draft capital for a non impact C and a goalie who had a great season but still doesn’t have a proven playoff track record.

This trade is one of those doesn’t make sense for either side trades. Why are the Islanders trading Sorokin?

By your definition then he’s arguably not the best goalie either. I agree it would be silly for the Islanders to trade him.

This can simultaneously be a trade the Canes wouldn’t do, and be crazy for the Islanders to make.

Pelech's cap hit isn't bad, but the contract length and it not being front loaded is iffy. A person could say that about any defenceman signed past 32 years old though I know

Main problem is the Oilers would be spending $23,750,000 on 4 LD with Pelech. They're good at LW too. So they'd be spending more than what Campbell makes on parts of the team they don't need to, and can't really.

Never mind the three first round picks and the 2nd!
