I like Schmaltz but I wouldn't do it. Those picks could fill bigger needs for the team long term. Just my basic feeling of trading first round picks.

Why does everyone on today (or more accurately lately) think that goalies have 1st round pick value? They simply don't have that kind of value!

Wings pass this is way way overpayment for an injury prone guys who doesn't do much outside of a few good weeks last year. Wouldn't even pay 1 1st for him

Supply and demand position, a lot depends on value of the goalie and the need to move or ability to hold on, or how much demand around the league. Some goalies hold a whole lot more value than others. Crazy how easy and far the value can drop though.

I can guarantee that Yzerman isn't doing this. We are basically trading Bertuzzi, Hronek, Zadina, 4th round pick = Schamltz and 2nd round pick.

In this case it's more of getting rid of Murray's contract and getting Vejmelka's cost-controlled contract.

I think in this case it's just the usual anti leaf sentiment. Murray costs a first to dump because Mrazek being traded for a drop of only 13 spots in the draft taught these people nothing.

It's about a desire to take TO to the cleaners. The Leafs just want to move on from Murray (most likely) and Woll will be their new backup, they have zero need for Vejmelka.

Although this post could use some trade adjustments, the Vejmelka trade value is not in Vej but really in getting out from the Murry contract. Getting out of that contract alone should cost a late 1st round pick or a A grade prospect.

Vejmelka for Robertson is a close, by the numbers, value swap but the layered value of quality/position played/difficulty to replace, puts the premium on Vejmelka. As it stands the trade value is actually favoring Toronto. GM negotiations would be needed to make this trade plausible.

Much much much better goalies have been traded for less than Vejmelka is getting here. Also TO doesn't need a new backup up, Woll will be their backup.

Mrazek is a much worse goalie, who gets hurt more and had 2 years of term and cost the Leafs 13 spots in the draft. Very recent history makes your statement just wrong. It will not take a 1st to move Murray.

Same token arizona has no need to move him with his cost certainty and a very viable tandem going forward, people love to buy guys that have no real reason to be for sale on here.

The big difference is Mrazek was mostly lower body (recoverable) and Murray has suffered multiple concussions (often career ending). Taking a chance on a good goalie with bad knees is far less risky than taking on a goalie with traumatic brain injury.

Because bad knees when your job is falling onto said knees many times a night is totally fine. It's conversations like these that make this site just ridiculous. A head injury is never good but goalies don't go out and hit people or get hit. They do though put their knees through hell all the time. A goalie with bad knees isn't a goalie anymore.

I am well aware, was a goalie, and raising a son that is a goalie. Goalies can play for many years with bad knees, much different than trying to play with double vision and blinding headaches. I really hope that Murry finds a way back to playing, multiple concussions makes this a long shot for many players.

Side note: taking the impact from a player on the rush or hard clapper to the helmet is a hell of an experience. If you haven't had the experience, I can see why you would say goalies don't get hit.

I know they take hits but it's not the same as getting absolutely blown up with an open ice hit. Murray could easily go the rest of his career without a head injury but bad knees will ruin a goalie. Price is the example of this
