Even if they overhaul the entire front office and have ownership sign-off on a rebuild, the Jets would keep Morrissey as their remaining pillar to build around just because of age and importance of position. As several of the Jets players have noted though in their exit interviews, the small market dictates fan support as more critical for ticket sale revenue - conceding any kind of competitiveness and trying to sell fans on a 3-4 year rebuild where the playoffs are a long shot and losing happens more than winning would be a death knell for the Jets' franchise.

The Sabres would be nuts to send that offer. The Jets would be plain stupid to not accept it. Also, Morrissey is not would the Sabres lack.

Even if Winnipeg goes full rebuild, Morrissey would be the last player they'd trade...

He would go as one of the first. Him and PLD would get them most of assets for this rebuild.

While thinking about it, they should trade PLD, get couple picks and do retooling, rather than rebuild. They still have way too many fine players to blow this up.

I agree that they should retool not rebuild. But Morrissey has 5 years left on his deal after this one, and he's on an amazing contract. Obviously he would return a kings randsom, but they probably find him too valuable to trade, because he'd still be under contract after the rebuild was done. There's a lot of guys on this roster I'd trade before I'd give up Morissey. Unless of course a team offered up a young stud defenseman like Byram or Sanderson or someone of that pedigree. But I think that's probably unlikely

That's the issue, you need to get a haul to retool properly. Wheeler and Scheifele is not gonna get it. PLD will get some. But Morrisey, on that deal is probably worth 3x1st equivalent.
If only Sabres had Dahlin and Power alread signed, they could see if they can fit Morrisey cap hit.

He’s earned the conversation about what his future wants to be, I’m sure he’s on the short list to be a lifetime jet, and wear a letter if not the c going forward. Going into a rebuild, nobody should be off limits, going to need some vets to guide the rookies through the rebuild, he’s a perfect candidate, but if there’s a haul that you just can’t say no to, got to make the move.

I know right?! Can't we just pay a lot, but not anything like this, for a physical defensive right shot d to play with power?

Exactly give me a RH Samuelsson for Power. It's crazy all the pieces they were missing a few years ago. Now we're looking for a 2nd pair RHD, a bottom 6 vet forward, and a vet backup goalie (maybe). People don't always want to say or hear it but Adams and his staff have done an incredible job in 3 years. Also, get Dahlin and Power signed long term this summer please.

Sharks easily decline. Not sending you a conditional 1st for a career sub-900 goalie. He’s worth a 4th and that’s it.

They have made a lot of moves that look really good. My question is will they finish the job- a right handed Samuelsson, a vet goalie (that's at least decent), a two way center for the bottom 6 (somebody to help our pk and maybe win a big draw), maybe a power forward or two for the bottom 6. That's what I would do, I'm not sure if adams has the green light or the inclination to take those next steps though.

Why would San Jose give up a possible 1st round pick for a not even nhl backup caliber goalie?

Thoughts on Peeke, Sturm and Niederreiter for 3 of your 4 shopping list items? I don't think there's much to choose from for veteran goalies that don't fall into 1 of 3 categories: 1) aging, injury prone; 2) unwilling to be a # 2 and mentor to Levi; 3) seeking big payday or already on big contract; or 4) will be seen by Sabres as blocking Levi's path.

If we got those 3 it would certainly check off some boxes. I don't know how much a vet goalie would see Levi as competition. I think lots of teams are splitting time 50/50. I'm a little more concerned with adams history, he hasn't given up anything to get a goalie or paid a goalie anything meaningful in his time here as gm. Plus his hands might be tied with salary constraints.

Quick edit- and I'm one of the guys that doesn't believe in overspending for goalies, I think it says something that I think adams needs to do more.
